Hello all. My 2 daughters are getting switches at Xmas: one is getting a standard switch and one is getting a lite.

1) I am aware that downloaded games can be used on 2 Switches (not at the same time), but that the same Nintendo Account needs to be on both. Does this also apply for physical copies of games?
2) If there is one Nintendo Account for both, does this mean that if daughter 1 plays and gets to say level 4, when daughter 2 plays she will be at the same level. Or can they both have separate player profiles under one Nintendo Account?

Hi,

1. You can use a physical copy of a game on any number of Switch consoles. We do this a lot when we take our Switch games to friend's homes for them to try on their console.

2. Yes, if you have one account shared by more than one person, the levels and progress and unlockables are also shared if they use the save game state. The way round this is to use a different save game slot in the actual game e.g. Lego Harry Potter allows for multiple game saves so Daughter 1 has her game saved in slot 1 and Daughter 2 can play the same game from scratch and save progress in slot 2.

Simplest (and cheapest - games are expensive) thing would be to create a separate Nintendo account for each on their consoles and buy one physical copy of the game to share via local connection e.g. Mario Kart and Puyo Puyo require one person to have the physical game and then set up a local connection with other consoles for them to join in that don't have the same game.

That way, you can easily switch games between consoles without having to faff around with signing in on each one with different accounts to download the digital copy. Bonus of resale value for physical copies when the girls get bored of the game and want something else.
