    Good move Ailean.

I've heard nothing but good things about the SVS. Apart from one user who stated it did not like his room at all.

I think its the only real alternative under £800 now the Servo has dissappeared :(

Good point Apocalypse, Some have rooms that just dont like downward firing subs like the SVS, so the only real Forward firing sub at that price range would be a CHT-15 or the New Jamo D6 & D7 servo subs (which I have heard great things about and look forward to hearing them).

Apparently they tried to deliver my SVS today and no one was there....

This might have something to do with me phoning them yesterday and asking them to phone me if they could manage to clear it thru customs as I'd have to book the day off...

Oh well have to wait till Monday now... maybe I should order a projector and see if I can get Sat delivery. ;)

In a ten mile straight line we will have you at one end, me at the other and Bone Daddy from Meriden in the middle.

How about on Monday we all synchronise our DVD players and treat the whole of North Warwickshire to some whale sounds courtesy of Finding Nemo and the Warwickshire branch of the SVS Society.

    "They're here....." :)

As has been stated before, first impressions... GOD IT'S A MONSTER! ;)

It would have to be frosty cold outside wouldn't it! :(

So I've left it to warmup to room level before I plug it in, chopped the end off the mains lead and rewired a UK plug to it (God I hope the americans use brown as live ;) ), connected up my BetterCables lead and read most the instructions.

Had to come upstairs now and do something else to distract me from playing.

So what should I play first?

Yeah I'll be avia'ing it later, just want to make sure it works first and move the sofa out the way so I can get it in it's new corner home. ;)

Might try calibrating it with the DEQ as I can see the freq curve in real time (not that I'm lazy I just don't have Excel installed at home).

...right it's been sitting about for over an hour so it's time to go play!

    JEEZZZZZ!!!!!

After some fiddeling and a moment of '**** it's broke!' I got it going and played around with Iron Giant....

    OUCH IT'S TOO LOUD!!!!!!!!!
(Had to mute the lake bomb ;) )

Out came AVIA and ran thru the sub level tests....

    OOOPPSS....

Was on -2db at Amp and 3/4 on sub....
Corrected levels were -8db at Amp and about 1/3 on sub! :D

And there was the lads at SVS thinking I'd need two! :suicide:

Going to go watch something all the way thru and see if I can manage it without reaching for the sick bucket. :zonked:

Had a quick look at a LFE sweep on the DEQ and I have a couple of peaks but not too bad, will sort later after some quality time. :hiya:

    Hi all,

Please...be sure to calibrate the subwoofer(the entire HT really) with a SPL meter as soon as possible. When you are setting things by *ear*...it is very easy to have the bass 6,9 even 12-15dBs too hot. Pop in a DVD like the new Matrix film and run it up to reference levels like that and you may begin to hear some funny noises from the subwoofer sooner or later...:)

Also, if anyone ever has any setup/calibration questions about your subwoofer...feel free to email me at techsupport@svsubwoofers.com too. I don't have near as much time to enjoy these forums as I used too. SVS just purchased a 25k sq-ft manufacturing facility and we are going to be spending most of our free time updating it and setting some very cool r/d *rooms* for a while.

Well done Surfer! I was going to have a demo of Ians' but I got bored and ordered it blind anyways. ;)

    Certainly not disapointed!

I've recalibrated mine down to 16Hz now, just need to sit down with some test tones and and sort the curve out again.

Sounds like you're in for some fun Tom! ;)

My PC+ 20-39 included an 8m cable so is a little higher.

    Goods £523.34
    Shipping £78.75
    Taxes £141.22

    Total £743.31

It is a little risky ordering like this, my box was a little damaged but the sub wasn't touched and all worked fine.

Certainly reconmend seeking a demo before hand.

I agree with you in principle as one should always have a demo of a sub in your own home before buying it but in reality how many of us do that.

The sub is made up of three major parts; driver, amp and furniture and if either of the first two are faulty, SVS will send another with instructions on what is a fairly simple swap out. It seems that all subs are thoroughly tested before leaving the factory with special attention being given to those that are going overseas.

They are well packaged but I have no doubt that one day a gorilla will pick on an SVS to play with whilst in transit and damage the cylinder itself but as we haven't had such a thing happen yet I don't know what the company's response would be save to remind everyone that they are very customer focussed.

In return for these risks we are buying a subwoofer at probably half the price it would be if it were bought through normal retail channels.

Thanks for that information, why do they have such strange names they don't sound like subwoofers at all.
can you post some specs of this sub.

    cheers Dave.

When I got mine it had slipped out of the foam packing at the bottom of the box. I moved the sub a couple of days ago and noticed a very minor bit of cracking on the base plate where it had obviously hit the ground. The packaging is substantial so I don't want to imagine how far it was dropped.
