Finally got to watch this, after a long time waiting (our local cinema doesnt show anything beyond the latest blockbuster) and all I can say is what a stunning film. Its not often that when I look forward to a movie this much film, it actually matches the hype I've built up about it, but this just blew me away from the first 10 minutes till the fantastic ending.

Its billed as a brazillian goodfellas, but personally I think its much more powerful and compelling. There were a couple of scenes I found hard to watch, and the guy that played lil Ze was genuinely terrifying.

    Top class - highly recommended

i totally agree, but i did have the good fortune to see it in an indie cinema in canada earlier this year, very very cool on the big screen in that sort of atmosphere..

    A stunning film.

I can only think of Once Were Warriors and Nil By Mouth as semi-mainstream films having anywhere
near the same gut wrenching impact.

I've seen the documentary,it's on the DVD Rental.

As for Oscars - a film this good doesn't need acclaim :)

    I have a problem with my R3 CD-wow copy!

    Cannot get SUBTITLES!

Have tried doing it on the fly, it won't let me (other films do!) and if I chose it from the main menu they do not work!

    Anyone any ideas???

I love the way people describe this movie as 'Disturbing' and how they found some scenes difficult to watch :)

    No such problems myself :D

What dvd player do you have? When I first played the R3 disc the subtitles didn't automatically start but pauseing and going into the menu was fine..

Hope it works out - you could probably enjoy the film without subtitles but it is pretty funny so worth getting it sorted....awrabest

    and DD5.1 sound.
