Totally agree - brilliant ad :smashin:

Bit like the Honda Accord ad but maybe just not quite as good ...that was superb.

Does anyone know what the music track is on the Citroen C5 advert?

It sounds like the group "Yello", but I don't recognise the song...

Fantastic. First ad in ages that's made me want to watch it again and again.

When you compare it to the crud from the likes of vauxhall....

And the car looks pretty good too.

Its really well done on the citroen ad ,much higher standard than the VW one .(which is a bit pants really)

However the way its made to look so realistic is with a technique that uses light mapping and radiosity ( same thing kinda) . If you ever see those big silver mirror balls that vfx guys put on film sets thats the fella.

Basically it allows you to replicate in great detail all the lighting falling on a given scene. It also allows you to work in a high dynamic range lighting enviroment . Upshot is you can get very very realistic lighting on your model and match it exactly to other live action footage shot in that scene. Its a bit like your actually photographing a real scene rather than rendering out a certain range then trying to colour match it.

Only downside is that its very rarely used to any extent as it requires a lot of access to the set and vfx are normally the last in line when it comes to film directors and film making is rarely that controlled at the time of shooting these days.

Course you have to do all the animation and texturing ( although you can also get texture reference done at the same time all in one with the radiosity technique..especially if its a real object ie a car.) There is a certain level of automation in the lighting and texturing using this technique (less so in the texturing)

So whilst its nicely done , its not really all that clever , just very controlled.

Its done by a company called The Embassy and they seem to have made a bit of a past-time of doing ultra realistic robots using this technique (they have a website)...Unfortunately they don't seem to be too hot at anything else judging by the rest of their showreel.

A Transformers live action movie is in the pipeline although when it will be released is anyones guess...check out the IMDB.com website as it is listed there...Apparently it is going to be a retro one too, based on the first series...

There's just one thing wrong with the Citroen advert: the last thing they should do is show their cars coming apart. They do that well enough on their own.

Is there a longer version, where the car fails to go back together, the dealer keeps it for 3 weeks, and it still comes back with all the warning lights flashing?

Do you think it's a Transformer, or an Evil Depreciaticon?

I agree, it has to be the best ad on tv this year and if a prize exists this ad has to be awarded it.

Only down side is that it is for something French, personally I have boycotted all things frog ever since they decided to burn our lambs, won't even buy French apples in the supermarket!
