What's the best version to get?

    R1 or R2.

dvdcompare.net say they each have different features, but what do you think?

the slight difference in the features wouldn;t be an issue for me, but dvdcompare says that the r1 has a 'special case', where as the r2 has got an 'amaray case', so I would go for r1.

At the risk of going 'off thread', what is a amaray case and what is a jewel case ????

The R1 is in a good quality cardboard gatefold package.

Amaray is a brand name and is a version of the keepcases most DVDs come in (like at Blockbuster).
A jewel case is basically a CD case (although you can get different sizes)

According to Empire last month, the new Region 2 set is the one to get, with a new documentary and commentary, both apparently an improvement over the Region 1 release.

I wouldn't trust Empire when it comes to DVDs. The main bonuses on the R2 are a Barry Norman documentary and a piece on the War Of The Worlds :boring: The R1 has a commentary by Ebert, a separate commentary by Peter Bogdanovich and a feature length documenary on the battle over Citizen Kane. I know which one I'd pick.

I'm a big fan of the movie and of Welles, and own the R1 release. Given the different materials on R2 I'll wait for it to turn up in the sales and buy it too.
