How do you find having your desk in the cinema room with blacked out walls? Is it ok because you're facing the bay window? Bet the room sounds great!

Hi, desk is fine as I can work with lights on or can lift up blinds and open the windows. Room started of as mixed computer room/tv room. Over the years has become a dedicated room, my wife finally let me go all very dark grey, virtually black. This has made a massive difference, had react screens before due to white ceiling and light floor. As we all use iPads or laptops nowadays the desktop pc is hardly used. Very happy with sound, use atmos speakers as front height and rear height angled down to central seating position. Dedicated in ceiling speakers would sound better but that would be pushing it with my wife. If we ever sell the house someone can easily paint it back to white ceilings with the detailed coving. Just now set on deciding on Subs, looking to put both front facing either side of centre console.

I'm thinking of doing similar but it would be a dedicated office as well as cinema room so was thinking grey would be about right for the wall colour.

I know what you mean about ceiling speakers, if we ever sell I'll just leave mine in place!

To be fair I can still work comfortably on desk with main lights on and I have a lamp on the desk. The dark grey walls and ceiling make a massive difference, when I do anything to my setup I need to use the light from my phone or a torch as it’s so dark.

Well finally put in my two XTZ cinema 1x12 subs last night and moved my old PV1 to my living room. First film to watch with subs is going to be Galadiator 4k with dts x tonight . Have Saving Private Ryan on order for June with Dolby Atmos to test.

Update, have just installed Emotiva BasX A-5175 power amplifier to power LCR and surround speakers. What a difference it has made. Also had custom made speaker wire made up for LCR speakers. Great guy Paul Mortimer made them they are Van Damme Black Series Tour Grade Professional bi-wire speaker cable with Nakamichi banana plugs. Very impressed with the cable, well made and heavy.

How's the quality of the Draper XT1000V AT screen? What makes you choose a perforated screen instead of a woven screen? How's the nanoperf? How far are you from the screen? Visible texture/holes? How's the audio high frequency roll off? Did you experience the comb filtering that people are saying about perf screen? Have you tested woven XT900E before?

I'm in dilemma now: choosing nanoperf XT1000V or woven XT900E. My sitting distance will be 10'.

Hi I am very happy with the quality of my screen, good picture. It’s not AT. As you can see from my pictures my speakers are below or at the side of the screen and not behind. I will take a close up picture when I get home tonight of the surface.

Hi this is a picture of my screen. I have found since introducing the Emotiva to power LCR and surround there was a big difference in clarity and sound compared to letting my amp power all the speakers. By adding the second power amp to power surround backs and 4 atmos speakers I have also found these speakers to sound better and more defined. I never understood the benefits of power amps until I finally steered using them. I plan next in the future to replace my amp either the Marantz AV 7704 or if the prices come down for a 13.2 processor, I would like to run a 9.2.4 system with wide fronts.

Hi if was to get a 13.1 av I would get The marantz av 8805 over the Denon. I have my power amps so don’t need a amplifier which the Denon is. Just waiting for prices to come down and hoping my companies bring out av capable of 13.2 processing

Update, I have now changed to Marantz AV 7703 and now using Dali Alteco C1 as atmos speakers, have set them up as sides angled towards seating position. Sound so much better than the BW M1 set up as front height and back. BW M1 still up in pictures, will get round to removing these.

I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Raz's room last week when I picked up the Marantz....it is awesome !! Great screen, picture quality, sound, seating and the dark room makes such a difference. I felt depressed when I fired my PJ and screen up when I got home :)

    He's a sound bloke as well !

It was a pleasure having you over, your welcome anytime. I could be soon trading my projector in for a JVC x7900, hope this will be a big jump in picture quality. Can’t fault the Epson 9300, it’s been a cracking projector. Just came along a good deal to trade up with forum member, he has just bought himself the JVC x9900, so the JVC x7900 has to go for him.

JVC X7900, has been in a few weeks now and really loving the projector. Finally got rid of old long pool ceiling mount that would shake when someone moving around in room above. Just had someone make a mount for the JVC as limited wall space between windows.

Definitely has deeper blacks. I traded in my Epson towards the JVC. HDR looks so much better compared to the Epson.

Hi it took 8 years until my wife finally let me go dark for the room. She now actually spends more time in there than she ever has in the past.

This is a great looking room. Can I ask where you got your new BR and UHD storage units from? I've been looking for a while for units that aren't too deep, yet strong enough that the shelves won't sag over time. Thanks.
