Out of curiosity, how do you plan to screen these ?

I've been in one years ago, and from what I can remember everyone had to lie on the floor and look up the roof of the dome shaped building. The image filled the whole dome so that your whole vision was taken up by the image. I can remember an elephant which was waving its trunk and everyone was squirming as it felt like the trunk was going to touch your face.

Are you the proud owner of a dome shaped building ?

If your going to sit close to the screen then you'd probably be better off with one of the Cinema 180 type films. They were designed for standing / sitting and looking straight onto the film.

Sorry mate - haven't a clue ! I was just curious as I thought you might of had one of those special 360 projectors or a 'dome'.

Hey - I've just had a thought. I can remember that they always used to show rollercoaster rides or fast car chases which made you feel giddy and feel like you were going to fall over. Got a video camera ? Got a fast car ?

Well, I can remember being in Cinema 180, where you stand up and watch the film being projected onto one 'side' of the dome, and I presume the image was sort of projected 180 degrees around from the lens which was on the opposite side of the dome.

The Cinema 360 had the projector in the middle of the dome and projected straight up onto the roof of the dome and almost cover the whole of the dome. This is why you had to lie down as you'd get a bad neck looking up at the ceiling !

I enjoyed the 180 more, as you found yourself rocking from side to side and almost falling over as the image of the rollercoaster was flying around the track.

I've done a search in google on CINE 360 and it does turn up alot of stuff, so if you can be bothered to trawl through it you might be able to find something.

Incidentely, it said the 360 at Alton Tower has now been replaced by a 3D cinema. I suppose they are sort of old fashioned now compared to the new technology. I also found this - not the same as the 360 we are talking about - but it looks interesting :
