Do people here think, as I do, that advertising for the Church of Latter Day Saints is racist?
They use a blonde haired and blue eyed actor to portray Christ in their TV adverts. I find this appalling in this day and age. (Can't find an example of it at the moment.)

They have these images on their website:

and this

Are you sure that they are not simply stills from invasion of the body snatchers.

The woman in the first picture looks like a right mental.

I don't think it's racist, that's not the right word. Innacurate, misleading...I don't know. But considering that I find the whole of religion (organised or otherwise) farcical then this is only a small point against them in my opinion.

They certainly won't be trying to recruit you Batman. ;) They have positively Dark ages views on the gay community.

The COLDS is pre-dominantly white, middle class and English speaking. However, they do have 'branches' all over Europe. I do love the images of Christ. It irks them no end when you point out that Christ was more than likely (being a Semite and living in a hot climate) dark skinned, and had short black hair.:D

So what colour are his eyes and hair?
If he was a desert dwelling Semite, then most likely brown. Probably brown eyes too!:D

He's part of the group of people that could be played by Omid Djalili if required.

Forensic artist Richard Neave developed this picture. This is what a person of Jesus' age, birthplace etc would have looked similar to:

I know and wouldn't go near them with the preverbial barge pole! ;)

That's why I think their image of Christ as a blue eyed, blonde is racist.

sure a blonde hair blue eyed jesus, infact anyone in that climate etc would stand out like a sore thumb ;), well prob a bright red one to be more in depth lol

this is there website....

http://www.lds.org/

maybe a read of what there about will give you a better indication....don't let images put you off.

I think they maybe just need some slightly better marketing people rather than any specific intent to marginalise any specific racial group.

That image of Jesus is quite interesting though ...looks like David Bellamy.

These people know exactly what they're doing. They are not naive.

David Bellamy :rotfl:

Is progressive-av racist because the only images on our site that contain people, contain white people?

Progressive-av. What's that?

In the USA, where the Latter Day Saints started and have their biggest membership, there are millions of black people and race is a very sensitive issue.
My point is, by portraying Christ as a blue eyed blonde haired person they are knowingly distorting the truth to make white people feel more 'comfortable'.
This smacks of white supremacist ideology.

Where on the LDS site does it say that all the people pictured (i.e. whites) are the only kind of people that can be part of the club so to speak?

Or the other way around, one could argue that Progressive-AV are a racist organisation who only want to encourage white clients through the use of only white people on our advertising.

The images (pictures) say it loud and clear.

By portraying our average client or member of staff as white are we knowingly distorting the truth to make white people feel more comfortable with using us?

I have just been to the nativity play at a local school and can confirm that the Latter Day folk have got it right - the baby Jesus was definitely white :D

Or the image is just an image.....

My point is that it takes some amount of assumed intention on the readers part to make these images racist. If it were a YMCA or CAncer Research website no-one would've cared.
