Hi gurus,

Firstly I wanna say thanks to everyone. I've been learning so much from this forum.

I have recently upgraded my speakers to M&K K series.

3 K7 as L/C/R and 2 K4 as surround. No subwoofer yet. It's quite a dilemma:

Checked M&K K 10's at local store, it's $599.99. While the Velodyne CHT-15 has the price tag $575 online, after shipping it will be $630 something. (CHT-12 is $475)

K-10 LONG THROW 8" MPS2810 / MX700 WOOFER
INTERNAL M&K AMP 75 WATTS WITH DYNAMIC HEADROOM MAXIMIZER
35 Hz - 200 Hz ¡À 3 dB
Mag. Shielded.

The size of my room is 12x12x8.

My questions:

1, Do you think a 15" woofer is too big for me?
2, Will M&K + M&K give you better performance?

Thanks,
CP

The little M&K sub is very nice - good tight performer but not that deep. The Velodyne CHT15 will give you some seriously low bass but still be perfectly tight/fast etc. I'd definitely go for the CH15 as long as you have room for it.

There is no need to (and no benefit in) matching the sub and the main speakers - tonal matching doesn't come into it - you should simply pick the best sounding sub regardless of who makes it.

So, to answer your questions:

1. No, a 15" woofer is not too big for you.
2. There is no reason to stick to the same manufacturer for the sub.

Hope this helps.

Matt.

CP,

I have the same M&K K-Series as you. I also was in a dilemma over which sub to purchase. I also auditioned M&K subs with others.
I now have the Velo. CHT-15.....:D

This sub will definately not be too much for your room. My room is 17 x 15. If i where you , go for it !!!

Cheers
Kev
