    Hi guys,

I have a TV (Panasonic) that is approx 5 years old that turns itself on whenever I cast to it from my phone, automatically.

However, my parent's TV (Panasonic) is 10 years old and although it's in good nick, it doesn't support the aforementioned functionality. It does not auto turn on when I transmit something to the connected Chromecast.

So my question is - is this feature specific to some models, or generally found in all/most modern(ish) TVs?

Hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to say! :)

    Thanks,

    Z

It's a feature labelled “HDMI CEC” (Consumer Electronic Control) and is similar to how scart switching occured if variable volts were applied to certain pins in the scart socket.
Most modern TV's support it but it can be a bit flaky.

Or if you're asking about casting functionality then most TVs these days support a standard called miracast, which is also supported by most phones, tablets and laptops.

Notable exceptions include Apple (of course) as well as Google's own pixel range of devices, although almost all other Android devices support it.
