If you are running iPhone and Apple; then how about an AirPort Express to add AirPlay?

with airplay will i be abe to stream non itunes material from other music apps on ios... spotify, youtube
my macbook /speaker is upstairs, and router is downstairs. im guessing i need to attach the airport to router via ethernet

i assumed bluetooth will let me play anything rather then app restrictions

Most audio can be sent via AirPlay from iOS - Spotify and YouTube for certain and most other apps. And all audio from MacBook by selecting AirPlay device as the audio output.

You can either connect the AirPort Express to your router via a cable, or use WiFi.

I would go for the Chromecast Audio so long as the apps you use to play music support it (itunes doesn't as the music is stored locally on the device).
Airplay requires the phone to be running in the background which will flatten battery or could have range issues if you wander out of your Wi-Fi range. Chromecast streams direct from source of the music, so if you use a streaming service like Spotify or have music stored on a NAS it streams direct to the Chromecast from there once the phone has set up the stream meaning the phone is not needed to keep the stream playing.
