I will be spending Christmas this year in the Lake District. I am looking for a restaurant/pub that will be open for lunch on Christmas Day. Most places haven’t got the menu yet and I also don’t know what places normally serve food on Christmas Day. Can anyone in the area recommend somewhere that normally sells Christmas Day Lunch?

Best bet would be Trip Advisor on the top places to eat in the area you are staying . Then contact to see if they are doing Crimbo day lunch . Sounds great though as we have done out a couple of times out for Christmas day dinner in our area and I recommend it for anyone . If you find the right place for you it can make for a totally stress free day .

Would the area even be open during that time?

The Drunken Duck, or The Kirkstile Inn get my vote if you want a traditional Lake District feel alongside good grub etc. They both do accomodation too.

There are plenty of other options though.

Cartmel is well placed albeit quaint. Simon Rogan has a 2 Michelin star restaurant there called l’enclume but it comes at a cost and I’m unsure if they open on Xmas day. However he has a very nice pub in the same village that I’ll check out for you. Do you need accommodation too?

We love the Lakes out of main season. October and November are just stunning and we've even had some good weather occasionally!!

Would need to know where in the Lakes, but you will have more choice around the honey traps - Ambleside and Bowness. We've stayed in Southwaite a few times and the Eagles Head is open all year around, but you would need to check on Christmas hours - Eagle's Head, Satterthwaite, The Lake District – Lake District pub near Grizedale Forest – classic pub food and modern British cooking, real ales and great atmosphere

Hi. I’ve stayed near cartmel before but that was years ago. I am renting a cottage near Ennerdale. Been there 4 times now.
