    Hi,

I was already thinking of buying the 42" Panasonic HDTV Plasma 42PV500 (or Pioneer) when i noticed the SAGEM 56" (i think) DLP rear pro with HD signal on it. It was very good!
I live in Germany but that day was in London visiting friends and went to Curry's to compare the prices.
    Currently i have 29" 4x3 standart CRT.
I know a lot about plasma's now but very little about DLP rearpro TV's.
    here are my requirements:
    1. HDTV with HDMI input - don't want to spend my money on something i change in 2-3 years.
    2. price - as low as possible but not going to buy "cheap" brands. best will be around 2000 euro or less.
    3. good connectivity.
    4. preferably hanged to the wall but will live with TV on bench. have anough room.
    5. one of the main - don't want to see pixels from 3m distance.

Now i did a little investigation and calculated the pixel size for common plasma's and DLP's:

diagonal H pixel, mm V pixel, mm
    42 Plasma SD 1.09 1.09
    42 Plasma 0.91 0.68
    50 Plasma 0.81 0.81
    44 DLP 0.76 0.76
    46 DLP 0.80 0.80
    50 DLP 0.86 0.86
    52 DLP 0.90 0.90

From 2.5-3 meters i hardly see any difference between 42" SD and HD plasma.
That means the pixel size less than 1mm will do OK for me.
DLP's are cheaper than Plasma's for the same size - that's the main reason to choose 50"DLP over 50" plasma (perfect choice)

I would like to watch digital cable and HDTV as soon as it is out here as well as HD DVD's (WMVHD for the first time with PC).

    Which DLP should i choose?
I don't trust Thomson. The next in price is Toshiba. Sagem and Samsungs are more expensive than Toshiba
i saw the list on the parallel thread:
    LCD Rear Projection TVs

Thomson 50DLY645 50" Rear Projection Television

    DLP Rear Projection TVs

Sagem Axium HDD45 High Definition DLP TV
Sagem Axium HDD56 High Definition DLP TV

Samsung SP50L7HX 50” Slimline High Definition DLP TV
    Samsung SP46L6HXX

Thomson 50DSZ645 High Definition Slim DLP TV

Toshiba 46WM48P 46" DLP Rear Projection Television
Toshiba 52WM48P 52" DLP Rear Projection Television

Are there any other DLP rearpo's HD ready and with HDMI?
I personally tending towards Toshiba 46WM48P or 52WM48P but haven't seen them in real.
If they are as good as SAGEM then it's OK.
Which one is better, 46" or 52"?
I understand that 46" will look sharper on SD movies and probably brighter if they use same bulb?

    Thanks in advance!

also in HD mode on the LG plasma, the 50'' screen wasn't nearly as good P.Q as the 36'' screen...... :thumbsdow

the 36'' screen was 25 percent brighter and sharper than the 50''.......i was shocked to see it, but i dont know if this applies to DLP's too..

in fact, the P.Q difference might have been even greater than this, BECAUSE EVERYONE NOTICED IT.....its not a good idea to display a 50'' beside a 36''....
the best P.Q was from the small 28''........the 3rd of the trio set up in HD display mode

if you'll get back 3 meters, you'll appreciate 50" as you won't see enough details on 36" :)

i'm not sure because the difference in quality was very large....but it's true what you say, 10ft is too far away for only 36'' (it certainly is with regards to us lot here :smashin: )........

but the trouble is, 10ft away from the 50'' and it still looked poor, you could see every blade of grass on the 36'' ; but the 50'' was just a blur!..........unless the 50'' was not set up in HD mode!

there's no doubt that the bigger screen is becoming more popular....at currys they had a 60'' plasma and that wasn't there last week  , it was massive; but cost a fortune.

not really on plasmas, you're better off going to the plasma forum....but what i do know, is the quality of panasonic viera plasmas is very high; but they're quite expensive, especially if you're after anything near the 56'' mark..

i'll probably buy the sagem 56'' DLP, because it's so good; maybe the best..........other than this, the Samsung non-pedestal 50 or 56'' and less likely; the sammy 56'' 1080p pedestal..

to be honest, any of these 3 dlp's will be ok....

Sure i was not asking about plasmas in my previous post.
Sagems and Samsungs are out of my badget.
56" is too big for 3 meters
    even 52 is too big.
Looks like i'll be choosing between cheap Toshiba 46" WM48P and 42" HD Plasma.

How does Toshiba compares to Sagem and Samsung?
if Toshiba is as good as Sagem, i would take it.

what is the distance you are watching your TV from and do you see pixelisation/dots?
I red in review that Toshiba is not using DCDi Faroudga processor but their own one and it is making deinterlacing worse than the DVD (480i/480p)
But Thomson has faroudga and is better.

    Any comments?
