Both great, but Aliens for me is better entertainment and quickens the pulse
Aliens, without a doubt
I'm literally going to have to hand this over to a coin flip. Best out of 3.
Aliens. Which is kind of appropriate seeing as I did see it at the flicks 4 weekends in a row when it first got released. I hadn't planned to go the 4th time but as the latest time I could get the bus into town to catch the Saturday matinee showing got closer I found myself shouting "mum, I'm going to the cinema. I'll be late for tea". £1 at the local ABC cinema, on their biggest screen with dolby stereo sound
Impossible. Both are 10 for me! Based on number of times watched though its...
i think aliens is a better film, but... if i had to watch one now it would be predator - its just more entertaining at nearly 1am!
Predator is a tighter, more effective film with more likeable characters IMO. Aliens is probably the 'better' film overall though, with bigger stakes, more epic scenes, and a much more iconic protagonist in Ripley. No, I can't decide.
What I will say though; any one of Dutch's commandos could wipe out all the Colonial Marines in the blink of an eye. Fact.
Aliens is superb so gets my choice over Predator
I reckon Drake & Vasquez could have held their own
Pfft. Slovenly insubordinates. Mac or Billy would take those smartguns off them, shove them up their assess, and spank them so hard they'd go running to the Aliens for a cuddle.
Even if you said Alien rather than Aliens I still would have chose it over Predator, the tensions almost unbearable in both and don't think really been beat since.
Yet Mac & Billy had their behinds handed to them by a vagina faced, girly looking, Danny Glover wannabe Predator who spends more time hiding in bushes and standing up trees than decapitating.
Meh, I think Vasquez & Drake would be just fine.
Aliens for sure, one of my favourite films of all time!
I love Predator but Aliens is without a doubt one of my most watched sci-fi masterpieces. Now if Robocop was also a choice it'd be a lot harder..nay impossible.
Too tough for me to choose, as I like them both for different reasons.
Easy, Aliens. But then, I'm a philistine who prefers Predator 2 to Predator.
I think you are getting Predator mixed up with Commando!
And yeah...Matrix (or Bennett) could wipe them out in a blink of an eye!
Its the late 80s holy trinity right there! Predator or Aliens or Robocop. Jeez. Spoilt for choice...
No love for The Terminator? I suppose that's early 80s.
You make me laugh. If Matrix were here, he'd laugh too.
The first time I saw both of these films were on the same night at am alligator marathon of Alien, Predator, Aliens, Predator 2 at the Scala in London in early 1990s.
So the vote is an easy one as I can compare my feelings and impact of each film from that one night. I was a Virgin all of the films. Alien obviously made an impression as the ultimate foreboding dread atmospheric movie. Then Predator knocked me for six with Arnie reaching God status for me. so far an amazing night... And surely I've seen the best as sequels will surely be inferior...but oh my God, Aliens came next and trounced on everything that went before, it gave me stratospheric sensations that I never felt since...since the OT star wars movies.
It still rules to this day on my umpteenth viewing and remains Cameron's greatest. Predator rocks too.
But Aliens wins my vote by a long stretch. It's in my top five favourite movies of all time, it's full of iconic moments and even more one liners than Arnie in Predator. Arnie's "Stick around" and "you are one ugly..." is all that stays with me compared to the gang ho marines and Hudson ranking amongst cinemas greatest throwaway characters. There was also the most hated villain (no not the alien) and one of the greatest female badass heroine ever. Female heroines always make for superior heroes for me, personally, because of the cultural imbalance we all grew up with that makes them more complex, emotional and ultimately the greater heroes given the extra challenges they face. Ellen Ripley epitomised that in the most badass, commanding way. Then of course there is the younger James Cameron in his prime, pulling off the most exhilarating action thriller Sci fi ever made, full stop.
Predator is legendary too thanks to Tierman, Arnie, Silvestri. But that night at the Scala, Aliens was the film that redefined my love for cinema since star wars.
Hey that's my quote! I was going to mention that earlier too. Ill be back Bennett! Ill be waiting John!
As others have said, it's very hard to choose. But for me, it has to be Predator.
I have lost count of the times I have seen it. 20-30 at least. Even after watching it at my local Vue for the 30th anniversary last year, and being so disappointed with the transfer, I got home and watched my bluray again to banish the poor image out of my mind.
So, has to be Predator you bunch of slack jawed faggots!
Normally, Aliens just about has the edge for me.
However, if we’re talking about the UNCUT version of Predator, with the Billy vs Predator deleted scene included, then that’s the clear winner for me
This is like being asked to choose which one of your two kids is your favourite! These two films were a huge part of my end of childhood/beginning of teens - rented these two from the video shop dozens of times (when they were in - the holy trinity of Predator, Robocop and Aliens!). I suppose if pushed, Predator is shorter and more accessible in that respect and I grew up on the theatrical cut of Aliens so I am starting to get a bit weary of the director's cut now.
Both films are so quotable and have great characters and there's no doubt this was peak Arnie. Probably no great surprise that all the films that followed in both franchises have failed to live up to these two. I don't think it's unfair to describe both as classic films.
So that's a long way of saying Predator. But only just.
Aliens for me.
My best mate and I used to argue sometimes about which was best and to me it was always the alien. Its a killing machine, it doesn't need any add on weapons.
The film for me also had more tension, as a kid it scared me which predator did not.
Predator is an excellent film. Aliens is better though.
Hudson is far more likeable than any of the characters in Predator.
The 80s had some amazing films.
And of course almost EVERY 80s kid has tried this at school (but with a pen/pencil)
Predator for me.
Any twonks who can't hold it together as a fighting unit without whinging and crying like babies and don't consider the ceiling as an entry point deserve to die. Or, when confronted by the alien don't have the balls to stop and call it an ugly mofo aren't worthy.
Aliens, need to watch it again soon. IN 4K! !!!! !!!! !!! ! ! !! fingers crossed this will happen soon
