Choose between Sharp LC46XD1E and Sony KDL-40W2000U

Hi,

My sister is planning to buy a new LCD TV and I been assigned the task of choosing the TV for them.

I have narrowed my search between the Sharp LC46XD1E and Sony KDL-40W2000U... The Sony KDL-46W2000U is very tempting but it is too expensive.

I needed some opinion which one should I recommend and is it advisable to take extended warranty on either of the sets?

I like my 40w2000, it was What Hifi's TV of the year in Dec, the Sharp is also quite well regarded and no doubt an owner will be along to mention the advantages of that set (not least an extra 6 inch pic size).

Whichever she goes for, I'd recommend that your sis buys from John Lewis and gets them to price match against another store (see the last few pages of the JL pricematch thread).

You could get a 40w2000 from there for less than £1300 and have the 5 year warranty thrown in.
