Have narrowed down my choice of new player t0:

    Denon 2800 Mark 2
    Toshiba SD900 (from Leconcepts)
Sony DVP9000 (my local centre has one for £649)
    Pioneer 757i

My only real desire is for the best movie picture and sound.

    What should I get?

757i has SACD, DVD-A and ilLink so it looks good on paper. 747 is a good performer and by all accounts 757 will be better. I would seriously consider trying one out. All the others are fine machines though.

    Thanks Paiger.

One other consideration. Must be quiet as a mouse.

My old 737 wasn't so good and my Arcam as we all know is a little noisy. Not awful if tucked away but a bit annoying.

I've had a few Sony's and they have been pretty quiet. I'm trying to decide what to get next. I'm going for a Sony 555 amp, or maybe the new 333 when it's out and my Sony 700 DVD is not going to do it justice. Also, I would like DVD-A. I see Marantz are also coming out with a new DVD-A/SACD player but I think it may be in the region of £1400.
