Does anyone know anywhere else other than premodded that is reliable for chipped X-boxes, especially the crystal one? With a 60gb hard-drive £250 is a bit steep (with the blue lights;) )

Also, does anyone know how much my own chipped box would be worth? It's got a 60gb HD with loads of games (though they would of course be deleted), with all the usual chipped software etc.

    Any advice appreciated:)

    Cheers
    Matt

I'm torn between xdvds and premodded.

The former comes out slightly cheaper but the latter is cheaper for a better drive.

chip it yourself - saves so much money. Chipped many more than 10 and never had a problem. You can even get a no solder chip and you are sorted (cant go wrong).
PLus given you would save £30 at least and get a better chip probably, you can buy an extra 60gb of hard drive. Go for 200gb - they are the best value for money atm.
Can get a 200gb for £70 inc vat!!!! an xbox for £100 and a top top class chip (no solder) for £40. Still saving £40!!!!!!!

I'm really not that literate when it comes to stuff like this though, how easy is it to do?

    as easy as pie!
    if pie was easy......

open up the box (6x T25 screws)
take out hd and dvd (3x T10 screws)
take off one mb screw and put it back with the chip between the screw and motherboard (T10 screw again)
put back dvd and hd (3x T10 screws)
put back case (6x T25 sccrews)

Then you can get superdisk to do all the installing you need and its working like a charm.

well many places sell the chips - an xbox costs 100 new or 90 second hand. Could get a gr8 chip for £40 inc postage and a box off the shelf (should check version number though - if you get a 1.6 you need to solder - and soldering can be nasty) Ive soldered 6 of mine but as i say its a fair bit more challenging and requires practice at soldering.

    Hi mate.

Could you link to a reliable supplier of solder-less chips please.

    Thanks

Have a look at www.modconsole.co.uk. They sell xecuter solderless. I've not attempted to mod myself. Happy to pay the little bit extra and get them to do it myself...great job. They will also help with what you might get for an old modded box....

    Hope this helps....

basically if you can put a pc together or even swap a hard drive out then you can pretty much do the physical stuff with the xbox, its really easy to do.
the only head stratching bit, is doing the software side of things.
but as kelvin has said, its best to read things through a good few times first to try and make sense of what they say.
if you dont have a clue and are planning to try to wing your way through it forget it, you can end up with a pretty useless black box.

but if you read a bit up before hand you'll be fine.
    :)

as mentioned before divineo.co.uk sells good chips - the xenium solderless is the one im buying at the moment. Shipping is really fast too.
as mentioned if you can open a pc and fit a component then you can fit a solderless chip. Solder chips require practice as ive said before. The software side doesnt require much other than a new copy of nero (coz that supports XBOX compatability) (you can set all the settings for the dvd with one click of a checkbox) and some dodgy software.....

I'm tempted to trade my black one in for a crystal version. How can you tell if it's a 1.6 model, what do you look for?

superdisk is a dashboard that will self boot when you have a chipped xbox - it will then have a menu with a selection of things to do to your xbox - for example formatting, flashing chip, etc etc. It can be found in errr... the usual places....
Its nice and easy to use - once you know more about the xbox you wont like it so much because you still need to configure your settings after using it. If i chip a box i can transfer all files from xbox to xbox hence getting the settings too.
I live in london and can help if needed.

i think youd be better off selling it privately instead as most shops etc, wont accept it or wont give you any extra for it.

then buy the crystal one, or maybe take the chip out of yours and sell the old one on.

There is a new crystal xbox on ebay for £99.

Anyone happen to know what disks can be used (200GB hard disk) in a chipped box?

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Game are offering £100 for a used xbox and any 4 games.

PCW and Toys R Us are doing a Crystal Xbox and 3 games for £99.

If you can get Game to price match then you could trade up to a crystal for the price of a game (assuming you're not bothered about the games you trade/get as part of the Crystal deal).

Just soft mod your xbox, you don't even have to open it, just buy a used 007, Mechassault (both of these have to be the first versions, not platinum) or Splinter Cell, and use the memory card save exploit

The mod is also fully reversable incase you want to go on Xbox Live

1.6 xboxes can now also be softmodded using UXE exploit :)

goto xbox-scene to find out more

I used to mod playstation 1s, did loads
I wouldn't do an Xbox again tho (did 1, too much like hard work)

the D0 point is tiny and very hard to solder to, even for someone who is good at soldering. Just buy one already done.

Changing the Hard drive is a doddle tho. Get yourself a Firefu@%ers or Slayers install disk and it sets up the HD for you.
