    Hi,

To my dismay, I bought a TV with an inbuilt digital tuner but am in an area with zero signal until 2009! It's looking like i'll have to pay for some kind of cable/satelite service, but which one? Is there anything good without ongoing cost?

Anyone been in a similar predicament??

BT Vision appears to be a possibility?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi
Have you tried to get a digital signal with your existing aerial or just gone by one of the post code checkers. They can be inaccurate/ pessimistic.

Have to agree with Richard, in a thread two weeks ago a person also stated the same issue, once he gave his post code out it became evident he was being supplied false info. Where do you live?

    Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

I have checked the Freeview site which states that Freeview is not available in my area. I also managed to look at one of those sites that shows you line of sight to nearby antennas and what I believe to be the closest one is blocked.

I live in a block of apartments (recently purchased) and have just received a new Sony Bravia KDL-40w2000. I've literally just plugged it into the wall and have scanned for a signal, then checked the net which so far indicates no freeview.

    I live in Glossop SK13

    According to the DTG checker

    http://www.dtg.org.uk/consumer/coverage.html

parts of Glossop at least should already receive all the Freeview channels. I used SK13 8LX as the checker needs full post code. Presume you are using a communal aerial perhaps it is still set up for analogue?
As I said above these checkers are not all that accurate; they do not take very local factors into account and you may be in a different part of Glossop anyway. :). I do find that DTG one better than most however.

One more idea; Dont know your TV but some dual standard TVs (analogue and digital) like yours automatically scan for both analogue and digital but some have separate scan programmes in the menu. Make sure you have scanned for digital as well as analogue.

    From the link posted above:

Digital TV is likely to be available from 1 provider:
    Satellite television
Through a satellite dish from Sky: www.sky.com and Freesat from Sky

Freesat sounds like it could be the answer.

    Thanks.

Personally I would as a last throw ask a few neighbours in the block what TV reception they are getting and how.
