I've got a set of BX1 speakers that I'd like to use upstairs in the bedroom.

They would only be used to stream spotify from my iPad.

Is my cheapest option an apple airport express and then a mini amp? Any other suggestions?

You could try looking at second hand AV receivers with AirPlay ... they might work out cheaper.

There are also third party "AirPlay" enablers but the problem with a lot of them is they only work if you connect the iPhone / iPad direct to them (rather than your usual WiFi network) so you can't browse at the same time. Also no idea of sound quality.

Third option would be to utilise something like a Raspberry Pi.

I've bought a LP-2020A + Lepai Tripat mini amp. Will try and pick up a second hand Apple Airport Express as they are fairly cheap on eBay. Did look at second hand amps on here but if a mini amp will work itll look alot neater.

finding any decent mini amps for sale is hard work! can find no Muse 50's, decent power Topping systems etc without resorting to shipping from China. I have ordered one of these instead.

with regards Neet, I looked at that but I understand it doesn't use an Apple certified Airplay chip, but a software version of Airplay. this can cause dropouts and non-sync so if you want to use something like the Whaale multiroom app, then it's not recommended (from email convo with Whaale tech support). Whaale recommend chip based systems like Airport Express or Apple TV for full functionality.
