Does anyone know which are the cheapest THX speaker are?
Creative Megaworks 2.1 250D THX - £124.80
Creative Megaworks 5.1 550 THX - £210.60
from Overclockers UK
I'm aware that this probably isn't what you are looking for but it illustrates pretty well that THX certification really isn't worth much.
I knew someone would do that, I just knew it!
i think the cheapest is the mordaunt short package, but jamo's d6 package is also reasonably priced as well. then further up is the M&K range and it gets silly after that. thats just off the top of my head, no doubt there are more than these availible, have a look at thx.com for more thx stuff
The older THX sets are probably the best value now (most originally supplied with 2 subs),
bought 2nd hand they are a fraction of thier original price, but they still meet THX ultra performance levels and sound great.
These include sets by companies such as Jamo (THX One), Boston acoustics (VRS or thier other older set) and JBL (HT-1).
Keep an eye out for a second hand Kef THX package as they pop up from time to time.
The Mordaunt Short THX package has won almost every award going and is touted at £1600. A best buy bargain!!
Problem is they seem to have made it an "exceedingly limited" Edition! I cannot find anyone who can demo the full package. Its pointless ringing Marantz who distribute them coz everyone they refer me to aint got the speakers either.
All the magazines show it with the Pioneer 2011 amp which according to other threads on the forum most people can't get either!
Here endeth my rant
I think the Jamo set is THX select certified rather than Ultra, should that be of any consequence, anyhow they have a full set in Exeter Richer Sounds: 01392 272772.
Jamo D6 is THX Ultra
Jamo D7 Is THX Ultra 2
Also look for;
Kef Ref THX Ultra ( 2nd hand)
Boston 555 THX Ultra (2nd Hand)
M&K 750 THX Select £1275 ish for front three.
MS THX Select (richer sounds have these, dont know about demos)
Gets expensive after that.
