If you want to see my other post I’ve found the HC3 for £789.99, I would expect the price of a HC1 to drop very soon.

I paid £980 for my HC1 from PurelyGadgets. The HC3 has no external mike input, which makes it useless in my book, I use a Sennheiser radio mike with my HC1, the sound quality is broadcast.

The HC1 may well come down in price, after all most electronics do, eventually.

I am delighted with my HC1, the quality on an HDTV is awesome, sharp as a pin and the colours are true, I gained most of my knowledge from Mark, he knows the camera well, way to go.

The Sennheiser radio mike is model EW100, I paid around £400 for it nearly three years ago, but if you do a search you may well find it cheaper. The quality is typical Sennheiser and it's robust design makes for a long life, works well with my HC1 and Canon XM2

    Hope this helps.

The HC3 will take external microphones that are compatible with the Active Interface Shoe.

If you don’t want to use a compatible microphone, e.g. the Sony ECM-HST1, HGZ1 or the wireless HW1, a number of companies have an active interface shoe / mic jack adapter in the pipeline.

Hard to say.... they aren't making any more HC1s. The place which has often had the lowest price (purelygadgets.co.uk) has actually raised the price (currently £1065).

It's all a gamble of supply and demand. Often when a model is being replaced there is a clearly superior replacement, so lack of demand for the old model, so price drop. In this case it isn't so clear, as the HC3 isn't really a direct replacement.

In the US the prices (for the NTSC model) have already dropped, but now supplies are getting low.

You could try waiting a little while, but I would not wait too long.
In the US, the direct from Sony price (usually the highest) dropped from $1800 to $1500 ($1499) a couple of weeks ago... but now they are sold out and the HC1 doesn't show up at all. US prices from reputable retailers dropped from around $1600 to $1400 or so... and reports are they are selling out. B&H in New York dropped down to $1349, but has since gone up to $1399. So in the US at least I think the prices have reached the bottom.

In the UK, the Sony shop price has held at £1499, no change.. and the cheapest web prices has risen slightly. Are we just behind and there will be a drop here later, or is there less supply out there so there won't be a drop?
    I just don't know.

Yea, they have been available from Hong Kong for around £800 since shortly after launch... but there you have to either pay or avoid VAT. So again there hasn't been a change in the price. Only change is that before there were a number of Hong Kong based places which had it, now there seems to be far fewer.

So if the HC3 is being released and it is more "point and shoot" than the HC1. Is there likely to be a model similar to the HC1 released to supersede it? One with more manual controls than the HC3?

There is only speculation, nobody knows.

Maybe there will be a "HC5" which is similar to the HC1 in terms of controls... or maybe they will stick with pushing you to the "professional" line (e.g. A1) to get that.
