Which current player with prog scan is cheapest?
the cambridge audio dv55 and the limit dvda900 both £170
pal and ntsc progressive. limit has dvd audio
Both available at richer sounds.
You might want to have a look at my post below in the msg root view.
What about the yamaha DVS540 ?
Prog scan on PAL nad NTSC £150
Not a very good one, ghosting on prog scan.
I was about to say that "cheap" often doesn't equate to "goo" or even "resonable" from my limited experience and reading.
Has to be the sony 730, from the specs and other posts the internals seem the same as my new 930 minus SACD and £100!
Awful bland styling next to the 930 though.
My cheapo £55 from Safeway Compacks 5000 does Prog Scan, and picture on ae100 looks good ( to me anyway ). Also seems to be Macrovision and region free.
At this price bracket you are probably better off putting your money towards a DVD player that does not necessarily offer progressive scan, but instead a reaonable picture quality. Yes you can get progressive scan for less than £200 but progressive scan alone does not make a good DVD player.
Keep in mind the display you are using as well. If you have a progressive scan TV it will be capable of displaying the quality of machines way beyond this price bracket. If you haven't got a progressive scan TV why bother? And if you are using anything larger than a TV, like a plasma for example, a DVD player in this bracket is like putting remoulds on a Porshe.
Just a few thoughts. There are some good and pretty cheap players out there but don't get too caught up in buzz words unles you are going to benefit from them!
