    Hi All,

I've just seen this on ebay and what are your thoughts ??

It's just that i'm after a cheap Sony or Barco, as it's my first CRT projector, and would like to use a HTPC with it.

Roland or anybody else got a cheap Barco or Sony going for around the £500 - £600 mark ??

    Cheers

    Cosmic023

PS: Just found this Barco 801 on ebay. Not sure about tube burn, but the unit has done 1600 hours.

PPS: Just found out it's between 2 and 3 on this chart.

    Yeah Buns,

I'd like a 801s if it was possible, but i'm really limited to budget units becasue of cost.

But i'm sure this 801 unit sounds reasonably ok ??

    Maybe it is ?? ;)

    Cheers

I would go for the 801 it is a later model, quieter and is set up from the remote.
The 650 is is nice projector and at that price is still less than a replacement tube.

But bear in mind that none of these will come with a warenty unlike mine.

Paranoid post: The seller appears to be a brand new member of ebay. I was a brand new member once and I'm not a crook.. but its something to bear in mind when parting with a significant amount of cash, especially for something that is going to form a serious part of your home cinema. I would be inclined to buy from a reputable source, such as Roland, (which BTW is what i did :D) who can offer you warranty.

    Hi all,

    Chris:

I can understand what you mean, as i've had my fingers burnt with a person on ebay before. But he was a total crook, and had false details even with the bank !!

It's an electronics company in Andover, and they seem to check out ok.

I'm always wary of new people on ebay, but then i've bought loads of stuff of people with zero or small feedback ratings, and had no problems, well apart from the one time.

Apart from checking their details on ebay, what else can i do to make sure they are ok ?? I've had many mails from the person selling it, and they seem ok.

    Roland:

What is a Vision600 ?? Is that similar to the 650 ?? I'd really like to win the 801 unit on ebay, or at least something like that. As you might have noticed, i was looking at a Seleco 350 before, and didn't get it because of the minimal video frequency bandwidth, and would prefer to get a unit that has video bandwidth and enables me to use my HTPC with a CRT projector.

Trouble is budget..... (Or lack of it !!)......i can stretch up to £500 (£600 max), but then there is always the problem of getting the unit to me in one piece !! I know how fragile these things are, i've read many horror shipping stories on the AVS forum.

    Cheers

    Hi Roland,

Any news on the Barco Vision 600 ??

    Cheers

    Cosmic023

PS: Found out on AVS forums last night, that this projector is a video only projector ?? Is that true ?? As i am looking for a CRT projector that i can connect to a HTPC.

I have got a really smart Barco data 600 with near perfect tubes (see photo). Also has glass lenses. Produces fabulous pictures. Sparkling clean inside. I will sell for £550. Price includes handbook. You can see it working in Nottingham.
