cheap or diy ir receiver?

    hi all

    anybody got any links to a cheap infra red receiver for my pc, or any links to where I could get the plans for one?

    Then use lirc or winlirc, possible works with others too although I have only used it with lirc.

    About £3-£4 of parts (although you may end up spending more depending on whether or not you can get diodes caps and resistors in small quantities).

    I sort of understand that, but would prefer if I could lay it out on hole board, with more detailed instructions!!!

    So for the second attempt where could I get a cheap IR receiver from?

    having just looked on the RS website I`m really confused about which bits to get as there are lots of different types of the same thing, by the looks of it. Also you have to buy lots of each item, has anybody built something like this before and has lots of bits left over or can source the bits individually?

    looks like a bargain to me, what software do you use with it , could I use Girder?

    Yeah I use girder and the igor plugin for controlling my HTPC :)

    will girder control theatretek with any IrDA device ?

    Girder will control anything you program it to ;) IrDA is different to IR btw, don't get them confused :)
