I'm looking to buy a netbook as cheaply as possible, mainly for web browsing but also to use online indoor rowing software, which looks like pushing me towards a netbook that runs XP.

On cost grounds and ability to run what I need, the Acer Aspire One looks a good bet (1GB memory, 120GB HDD + XP) for £250 to me, but any alternate suggestions would be welcomed.

I'm not very technically minded  so need something simple (i.e. I don't want to get into using extra progs on Linux to make the machine run windows applications).

Have recently bought a decent desktop, so the netbook is a frivolous buy.

Please don't suggest a full-size laptop because that will only make the decision harder!;)

You can tell I'm new to the site

Just seen the link under bargains for a Lenovo s10 for £229 - would this be better?

Should also point out that I don't care too much about battery life - I'll be powering it most of the time and will be unlikely to need much more than a couple of hours on the battery.

I doubt you'll get an XP netbook for less than the £250 one you reference. The Samsung NC10 is well recommended, but it's another £50 on top.

    Edit: I stand corrected, that's a great deal, it's over £270 on other sites, here's a review.

Do you think it would be better to wait a few weeks for the price of the Acer A150 to drop?

Personally I would buy the Lenovo over an Acer any day of the week.

Thanks NewBeetle - my only concern is the slightly smaller screen with the Lenovo - is this going to make any/much difference?
