I am looking to buy a plasma TV for about £2,000 and I'm looking to extended the warranty to 5 years. However the best quote I've got is £500 (25% of the TV!!!!). Does anyone know where I can get a cheap, reliable extension to the traditional 1 year warranty?

If you buy a TV from John Lewis they offer a FREE 5 year warranty with all their TVs. They also price match so that could be your best bet.

I have spoken to Domestic and General and they have offered me a 5 year guarantee for my Hitachi 5200 for £290. This to me is a very good price. They also replace with New for Old.

Richer Sounds do an extra 2 year warranty for 10% of the screen price, just depends if they have the screen you are after.

All very helpful stuff. I've looked into the John Lewis warranty. Please correct me if I'm wrong but the JL warranty DOESN'T cover accidental damage, but an extended warranty WILL. It that right or am I in cuckoo-land?

Quite correct. But your home contents insurance will cover for accidental damage. (probably not damage caused by pets)
I think the Domestic and General warranty covers pet damage.

Accidental or malicous damage is insurance, warranty covers mechanical/electrical breakdown of none comsumable parts and may cover both parts and labour or just one.

I plan to get to JL this weekend to check out the latest range. Any tips on how to get JL to price match an internet company?

I've been in dialogue with TADL over the last coupole of days. The prices quoted by AV-Sales are not special rates for forum members - TADL will sell direct to the public at the same prices......

Only if its an internet only store. However, if the site also has a physical shop presence with ticketed prices then JL should price match.
