Following on a little from here, any recommendations for a cheap Euro trip?

Italy may or may not work out due to dates/flights, but I'm determined to go somewhere.! Leaving 21st July and back on the 27th to Dublin.

Basically, where is cheap to fly to within Europe? City or beach break or a combination of both, and I don't mind doing a bit of driving as the original plan was to fly to Milan and drive to Venice, Verona and maybe Switzerland.

Flights for the Italian trip were approximately €400 for 2 people.

    Prague?
Eastern Europe is probably cheaper than places like Italy and France.

In terms of flights, Norway is actually the cheapest destination! €150 return for both of us.

Try looking here - KAYAK Explore - see where you can go for how much
    Within you dates:
I love going to Budapest, Hungarian Grand Prix is on at the end of your dates - maybe see a practice day?
    Combine Budapest with Vienna ?

If your stuck on Italy, I found a couple of days in Milan more than enough, Rome on the other hand was amazing.

You haven't really given much info as regards likes so ...

try sky scanner can do search from country to everywhere sometimes doing 2 separate search one for outbound and one for inbound will bring up lower fares rather than a return flight
if your dates are flexible can search by whole month

    Hi

Sorry haven't updated, been crazy busy of late.

As for what I'm after, nothing in particular really. Not a drinker so night life isn't on the to do list. Preferably not somewhere extravagantly expensive. Not really after a beach holiday, as we can do that any time. It's our 5th anniversary so want somewhere we haven't been before, which rules out Paris and Cologne for city breaks.

Wouldn't mind flying somewhere and then driving a bit, which put Switzerland in my mind. Some spectacular sights to see I'm sure if we hired a car.

You're right! I usually look for flights from London, I not many people in Ireland use it.
I'd probably go for Budapest (4 nights in a apartment), cheap place with great food, outstanding spa baths, great sights. Then train to Vienna/Salzburg and fly back from there.
    EDIT:
Just found google have anexplore flight option which looks pretty good at first glance - Explore flights

Lisbon and Porto are worth checking out, if you go to Lisbon do not drive, its murder!! The public transport works so no need to either.

    Sounds like a good idea.

I spent a few days driving around part of Switzerland (euro road trip) a few years back.

    Was fabulous.:smashin:

Krakow is pretty amazing, did a few days there in November and would definitely go back. Very cheap to eat out.

Have you considered Austria? I've been to Vienna and Graz and both are great places. Some great driving roads and scenery between the 2. Not sure on flight prices though.

You might get a cheap flight to Switzerland but it's not cheap when you're there. If you fly into Basel (North) it's a really interesting city & you're also just across the border from France & Germany. The German side is Black Forest so very traditional with plenty of good cheap restaurants.

I'm here on business skipping between all 3 countries for the next few weeks.

Sorry to do the reverse of this thread, but using the search option for Dublin only found me someone that comes from Dublin!

Any must-sees for a first time visitor DrPhil?

    Dunno, I'm not from Dublin!

Nor anywhere near it. Only touristy thing I've done in Dublin was the Kilmainham Jail tour and that spends a fair bit of time talking about what bastards the British were so maybe not your cup of tea, lol.

Google TripAdvisor Dublin attractions. That's what I usually do.

That said I'm going to Dublin twice in the next 6 weeks. Garth Brooks concert and a UFC fight.

Is it just Dublin you're doing or anywhere else in Ireland?

We're only there for 2.5 days and not getting a hire car so was planning to just stay in Dublin, got a hotel booked in the centre near the jail actually. We're definitely going to tourist it up and do the Guinness Storehouse tour.
