CHANNEL 5 tonight - plasma v lcd

You can even see even on TV that non of those have been calibrated!

and quite rightly so - any calibration would have made a mockery of the comparisons

they were presumably taken straight from the box - plug and play as it is for 99% of people

lets be honest - calibration is not an option for most people - very, very few specialist shops offer the service (let alone high street shops) and some have expressed doubts to its value in terms of image improvement over the financial outlay unless you are going down the panel only route

as i said in an earlier post - this forum is for enthusiasts - the public by and large are unaware of its existance and are not interested anyway - they want plug and play and to buy off the high street at the best price :D

going back to the calibration issue - a specialist shop was asked why their display screens were not calibrated to show their full potential - simple reply '...we want people to see what they will see in their home...'

not really stu. i have a CRT and can see that the black levels on the fuji were far better and so were the colours

What ??!! Are you suggesting strong blacks on an Alis panel? .....

.... INCOMING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;)

The good thing about this show is that I get the girlfriends old man telling me that my plasma is crap and that I should've got an (in his words) "LED" one. He's the kind of person that watches those shows and believes what they say - so I'm sure that there will be many more believers out there... (well the couple of thousand that watch channel five!)

I bet he shops in Dixons because of their knowledgable staff!!

This thread is so funny I can't stop laughing.

I am actually reading comments from people about the quality of the picture on TV's that they are seeing on their own TV and complaining about how poor it is.

It's like people who buy from QVC because the TV or stereo they are selling looks or sounds better than the one they are using.

Priceless.....

Yes, I agree. A bit like trying to decide which hi-fi sounds the best when you're listening on a mobile phone :rotfl: There's only one way to decide which display is the best - go and see for yourself.

The most honest thing said on that show was the fact that he'd have been perfectly happy with the £999 Goodmans one without the benefit of that kind of test.

Although even on TV it was clear that there was a noticable difference between that and the Sharp LCD. But as he said - £3500 worth of difference? For some, yes. For others, no way.

Brilliant comment which entirely supports why people like me are perfectly happy with my "cr@ppy" Hitachi 6600 compared to other better screens which are more expensive albeit with a better picture (in some cases).

Well, i still thought the SHARP looked best
Perhaps watching this 'review' via a Sharp LCD TV made me a tad biased though...:D

What a load of ********. Obviously not setup properley, obviously running guff feeds, and what the hell was the point of the headphones?? Wrong Fuji (the £1000 cheaper VHA40 would've had him creaming in his pants) and potentially the wrong Sharp - the 37" LCD resolution aside does a slightly better job to my eyes than the 45" does.

Gadget show. Pfft. Muppet Show more like.

Yes but those of us who don't need a comparisson to tell what a decent image should like like would have laughed heartily at all three.

Exactly!

Ha ha ha ha tee tee hee!

I know, lets get some bloke and sit him in a room for 10 minutes and see if he can tell us all what great screen to buy!

Totally laughable! I'm still giggling to myself now! :)

I know lets get some bloke and his daughters to take pictures of giraffes, so he can tell us what camera to buy!

Unbelievable. :rotfl:

What was the point of the Mac lad telling people to buy a mac. This is just the gadget show covering their backsides because they got so many complaints because of their comparisions of pcs v macs last time round.

Great test - drop a mac and a pc off a building and see how much it is to repair!

I'm giggling again.

I know lets give a family a projector and see how they get on.

Ha ha

The best till the last.

Lets have some fashion victim to tell us which is the best looking computer!

Laugh, i nearly shat!

I know that they are trying to give a lay person's experience in buying gear, but (i don't think that i'm alone here either) i would rather an expert in that field, would give his educated and informed view. :lesson:

This would be more advantageous to everyone looking to buy a piece of equipment!

I expect LCD screens to be flying off the shelves as i type.

shocking  show i wonder how much sharp excactlly paid them not to choose decent plasma's its the most 1 sided test ive seen its like puting barcelona in a cup competition and the rest of the teams are sunday league teams :rotfl: :rotfl: it was a total waist of time it didnt need a presenter to tell us that the sharp was gonna win

Just watched the show after recording it last night, what a riot. Best comedy I've seen on 5 ever. It was like comparing apples and oranges, total waste of time.

Ha ha i did tell you it would be a joke, they can never review stuff properly, they always screw it up by not doing the tests fairly, for instance putting an LCD to the side, thats a death wish to any LCD. and the price comparisons, is that really fair?

the only decent thing i got from this show, as always was a good laugh, oh and the MAC vs PC tests, its funny to see someone say mac's dont need virus protecting, and to say that they come bundled with software which is something MS is being stopped from doing, anti competetive anyone?

the best thing about it was the drop test, just goes to show you the difference between them, with a pc you got a choice of fixing it yourself, with a MAC you HAVE to send it off, HAVE to spend £500, HAVE to buy £50 keyboard and £50 Mice, i hate MACS! lol
