best AVR for me out of these 3 for 50% music and 50% movies with my current speakers?

I’m used to Audyssey so setting a Yamaha seems maybe not as good?

Get a 2ch amp with HT bypass for music, you will not regret it. You would need to upgrade the AVR to something with at least L/R pre-outs of course.

yep I will be getting a 2 channel amp, that’s my next plan after the new AVR, just gotta choose a new one that’s gonna last me a good 4 or 5 years like my current Denon 2200, which doesn’t have L/R pre- outs

X4500H and A2080 are similar products (apart from 11.2 processing on Denon), but as you won´t be manually tweaking or adding any boxes for the subwoofer (eq) the Denon would be my choice.

All sage advice, but don’t rule out Marantz. SR series. They are very good with music from what I have read and heard

The question is will you run a sub with your main speakers.
Your sub will add to the whole picture with music.

On the BK XXLS400 thread a forumite run without a sub for 8 years before trying and liking what he heard with it.

I now have Kef R3‘s which have a lot of bass for their size. They have a similar response to the R5’s. A quick change of direct and not, ie sub or no sub shows the difference.

I would read up on the Yamaha AVR as I don’t think their room correction is up to much.

All the older models are sold out. :( SR6015 costs over 1100£ which is bit of crazy price..

They have manual PEQ which may be handy for guys who like to tweak with REW, but @Waynester probably wants something easy like XT32.

yes I do! 🤣 I like XT32 and anything else other than that would frighten me 🤣

the Marantz models seem to be get slated on here by a proper audio engineer, read this guys reviews - very interesting 😳😳😱🤦‍♂️ they use XT32 or lesser so I was interested in one before I read this interested in Marantz aswell 😞

Upgrade your bk xls200 to jtr rs2.

Marantz av test worse than Denon avr

i’m not upgrading my sub lol! I haven’t even used it yet! Stop making silly comments 🙄

yes Marantz seem to be worse than Denon, unless you get the top of the range one 🤬

My audiolab 8000q (£800) and tag McLaren dac20 (£1250) outclass my lexicon mc-8 (£4500) for two channel hifi playback

Prices are when they were new, RRP.

There's a tag McLaren pre amp for sale on classified, that will outshine any avr.

Or just hold on until Black Friday and/or any new models are announced. There's no need to rush.

You’re right... no need to rush as my Denon 2200 can suffice until a good deal comes up on a ARX4500 or similar one, if any of you see one in silver (preferably) or black, let me know guys 😃👍🏻

For Audyssey mic placements, remember that it's creating an average of all positions, I imagine with a weighting towards the first three positions (which is why it'll let you stop after taking three readings).

I wouldn't worry about a few cms either way, you move your head when you're seated, if you shift your weight or lean another way you'll move by more than that. All it's doing is trying to create a larger sweet spot.

60cm is a good distance for between measurements.

I have a two seater couch that's about 1m from the rear wall. I do middle of the couch (1), over the left arm (2), over the right arm (3), then in front of those measurements (so about where my knees would be) (4, 5, 6), and then between those measurements slightly behind the back of the couch (7, 8).

It doesn't have to be exactly where your head is, it's creating a bubble of good response. That said, if I started with measurement 1 where I sit, my measurement 3 to the left would be very close to the wall, so I do what works for me.

You could also skip measurements 7 and 8 entirely. They might be doing you more harm than good.

There won`t be coming any deals for it cause it´s 2018 model and the ones you see are last ones. X4700H costs 1400£ so the 750£ price is quite a no brainer (X4500H). If you can do some finance deal with them then get it!

Once you get a integrated amp, then want to change avr to av pre amp, get multi channel power amplifier, dual subs.

Fair enough.

Just read his entire review, as I have on some other AVR’s before.

so it seems that I like distortion as I am chuffed with my 6013 which is basically the same as the 6014
I am using the analog inputs from my Panasonic player as that has much better Dac than the Marantz for cd playback.

Probably find analogue inputs are digitised, not many have true analogue bypass.

just finished Audyssey setup, I think I did better mic placement than last time...👍🏻 Especially after watching that video earlier 😊

anyway, here are my settings after calibration

anything a bit dodgy going on here? Anything need changing?

it seems to have set my sub to - 10.0 dB
should I change that? 😳🤔

how’s the other settings look?

I’ve put a HDMI screen shot up as wasn’t sure if I’d got that setup correctly either

It´s fine! Give it a listen and you can tweak the -10db figure to smaller if you want more grunt!

Change the "Scale 0-98" to another one. Click on it and choose the other one!

Play with "Reference and Flat" when you watch movies. The first one rolls off high frequencies.

If the bass sounds overcooked you can try and turn off dynamic eq too. I didn’t like what it did to my system.

Actually yeah...🤔 when I watch telly or movies at night, if my volume is fairly low, I struggle to hear the dialogue and the bass is too much at that volume... what is causing this? 😳🤔

It could be deq. Try turning it off when you hear that sound and see if it helps.

I turn off Dynamic EQ. If you want to boost your sub then don't do it in the calibration settings but instead use the options and adjust the level up 3db.
