I'm currently in the process of starting a new business and this process will need me to apply for a change of use of business type.

In this application there are two mandatory documents to include - the site plan and the location plan.

I've done some Googling of these but can't really work out the difference. Can anyone help me with this please?

It's a B category (we think B8 but even the council are unsure) to a D2.

Have you actually informed the council formally. One of my tenants had to do a change of use (because she approached them) and it obviously cost her money. She said to them "if I hadn't mentioned it what would have happened" the reply "probably nothing".

Well that's what the application is. It's on their website and when it's done I need to submit it. I just need to include the two plans but can't work out the difference.

A site plan is a plan of the building/business and a location plan is taken from the map of the street I believe.

Yeah that's what I thought, but when I Googled it they did not appear to be any different. I might try the council again but they weren't overly helpful last time.

See they look the same to me but the site plan is more zoomed in.

Yes the site plan is to ascertain the position and size of the building on the plot and the location plan is to ascertain where it actually is positioned on the street.

OK thanks. Seems odd to me they want both but I suppose it may be useful in some cases. Looks like it should be relatively easy for me then.

The planning portal lists a load of sites that will allow you to produce these maps at a click of a button too.

Yeah, although the ones we have looked at seem not to be able to differentiate between the building we are getting and the one next door. I'm sure I can get it working.

So our application has come back with the following requirement:

    1. FOUR COPIES of drawings/plans showing existing and proposed floor plans,

drawn to a scale of not less than 1:100.

The office is closed now and won't be open till Monday. anyone know why four copies of the same thing is required, or am I missing something? Bear in mind the application is totally digital so I'd be uploading the same thing 4 times.

Probably just copied-and-pasted from the old paper forms. I googled that text and Camden Council for example say:
