What an appalling crime dog theft is. Yes there are obviously incredibly severe crimes against people which are recognised as such, but I can't think of any other crime where the penalty is so out of sync with the harm it causes.
Thieves are only stealing the dogs as if they are like an iPhone or bike, but it isn't an exaggeration to say the victim loses a family member. Some people will lapse into deep depressions because of it. I'm certain most dog owners would give the thief all of their positions rather than lose their best friend. In no other case of "theft" (which doesn't seem like a strong enough term) is the value of something so little to the criminal in comparison to the victim. Not to mention the animal itself of course. What a low, low crime.
