Change Bose Head Unit in 2001 Honda Accord?

How would I go about changing the Head Unit in my 2001 Accord Executive? It is a Bose head unit with amp and sub system. I've been told it is really difficult. All I want is to have a head unit with MP3 and maybe DAB. I can't see an adaptor anywhere as they all seem to be 'non-bose' adaptors. Am I pissing in the wind?

Hi Gary,

Any luck with this? Next weeke i'm picking up an Accord with the Bose stereo (single CD player type) and also want to change it. Been looking on the 'net for info but no luck so far :(

Want to be able to play MP3's but I could be stuck with the standard deck...

Cheers,

Noman

I've kinda given up as there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this from everything I've read and heard. Thing is, I know it CAN be done cos a mate in work has exactly the same car and someone put a clarion mp3 tuner in that before he bought it. Sounded ok but I only had a brief listen to it.

Would the onboard amp of an mp3 tuner be as good as the bose one though? What about the sub does that get abandoned as well? Too many variables..

Haven't rang Auto Leads yet but local Halfords reckon they do a lead that can sort things out. Will go there tomm. (Sunday) and see if they really do and let you guys know...

Allegedly they are also offering "free" fitting on their head-units so it may just be easier to get everything from them - that way if something does not work it's their responsibility. That's the theory anyway. :)

I for one would be interested in the outcome of that one. Let us all know what happens. What sort of money would we have to spend on getting a decent enough head unit to include replacing the amp as well? Do most head units have built in amps anyway these days? Not sure.. I only want a decent mp3 unit and possibly something with DAB in?

How did this pan out? I've got a 2000 model Type-V with the Bose unit with multichanger, and would love to get my i-Pod connected.

Cheers

I got an Ipod Video hooked up to the Bose and it's brilliant. It's just one lead that runs from the cd changer port that i've led through the little cubby hole above the ashtray. i just connect the ipod and leave it in there. the cd forward and backward changes the folders and the up and down changes the tracks. you only get 'track 1' etc, not the track names but i can live with that. sounds good through the system as well. if you want to know more about this, then check the thread at http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1373&mforum=sp4rks
