Hi guys, Since reading the thread regaurding no SS HD just yet, does anybody know what the chances are of ITV showing the champions league proper on its HD channel?

Im sure if this was the case it would keep us ticking over until we get the Priemership

Well the Liverpool game wasn't on it - but it was just a qualifier!

Thing is though, if they were to; I'm sure Telewest would be advertising it as much as possible seeing they aren't getting SS HD

They probably haven't got the necessary HD equipment to do football.

    Who???

Every single game at this years world cup was show in HD on telewest, something sky owners could only dream of. Surely they wont have sold their 'HD equipment' since July?

Just E-Mailed the following throught to ITV:

    Hi,

I currently subscribe to Telewest for my TV service an very much enjoyed your coverage of the world cup in the HD format. My question is will you be running the same excellent coverage for this seasons Champions League games on ITV HD? Many thanks for your time and I, along with many Telewest customers, look forward to your response.

    Kind regards,
    Richard

When I get a response I will let you know.....:hiya:

I guess it will depend upon whether ITV are prepared to pay for HD cameras to cover their Champions League games. I'm not sure if ITV normally use their own cameras and equipment or use a service provider, or if either have this HD kit yet.

UEFA don't really care about the rights for the qualifying round. The real money for them is made in selling the packages for the group stage onwards.

As for HD I believe that would be in the hands of the home broadcaster. Is there not a European broadcasting agreement where all signatory nations can have access to the live feeds from whichever country holds the broadcasting rights.

As a bit of a superstition I usually sit in the Paddock at Anfield for European home games and often end up near a cameraman - they use Canon HD cameras

Not all Champions League games are even in Widescreen, yet alone HD. I think it is up to the host broadcaster, so SKY will probably insist on it in this country. It may be that SKY do it and ITV don't, but maybe there is one company that provides the production for pictutes in the UK in which case I would imagine both would have it for English based games.

I thought Uefa did deals with local suppliers to film the matches and this was fed to ITV/sky or whatever? This is why not all matches are in 16:9 yet alone HD. I suspect just like the F1 unless uefa has made HD a requirement for the filming contracts we won't see any HD games.
