All other channels work fine, but Ch5 is all blocky and goes black afetr a while. I suspect the arieal needs to be replaced. Somebody said a signal booster would fix this, but I'm not convinced ?? is it worth a try ?

    thanks

I have the exact same problem and I have a brand new £250 aerial. I think if you live in a week signal area channel 5 is bad... I'm pointing @ Emley Moor in Yorkshire but i'm quite a distance from it, down in in a Valley..

    Cmon, its only Channel 5!!!

I live in outer NW London and get Ch5 from Crystal Palace (which is outer SE London). Through my ordinary roof mounted aerial analogue Ch5 is unwatchable without a signal booster and then is still pretty poor. But on Freeview through the same aerial and with the signal booster it really is very good.

You can see that what I think is called the bit rate is low but otherwise it's excellent. But what I do find is weather conditions (particularly high winds) affect the reception on this channel more than others. It pixelates far more frequently than other channels and is seems more susceptible to radio/cell phone interference but I've never had a 'bad signal' complete loss of picture yet.

Channel 5 has been blocking/breaking up on NTL cable this week. I hope its sorted out before the new series of 'Prison Break' starts next year :rotfl:

The ONLY way you will ever know if a signal booster will improve your reception is to actually try one or even two together. No amount of speculation can predict accurate results for your
    own particular setup and location.

Also make sure you purchase a single set booster (this gives the most amplification). The Two (3, 4.) set boosters split the signal so it gets weaker and weaker from each outlet).
