Well done LG on the hmdi 2.1 implementation.
Did James say there is a built in pattern generator this year, if it has HDR slides built in, that is a "very nice to have".

Where is the 21:9 movie mode on the R? Please ask why they canceled it to the prototype. I guess you guys also made a more detailed interview about advancements for the 2019 panel (120Hz BFI, new TCon board, ABL, HDR brightness, pixel structure, input lag etc.)?

They were very brave to allow that prototype to roll and unroll all day weren't they? LG must be very confident of the technology.

      They are:

[CES 2019] LG rolls out world’s first rollable OLED TV

LG's rollable OLED TV is incredible, and it's actually going on sale in 2019

Well if they make one over 120 inches and 8K I'd be very interested! Get rid of the projector and screen!

120" would take up a lot of floor space.

Yeah. . Well ... I'd probably attach it to the wall to get the right height and use the top of it as an ornament shelf... But that's the gist!

Get the impression that we are maybe looking at July/August before the 2019 OLED's see the light of day due to HDMI 2.1. That is pretty late but it might give LG a big advantage if they are the only ones rolling it out across the board this year.

Having said that it is strange that LG didn't have any of the regular 2019 OLEDs on display as the HDMI spec wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference.

I really think we need a good article on what HDMI 2.1 brings to the table over HDMI 2.0b as it may not be as massive a selling point as it seems .... and it would take a lot of the guessing out of it for any prospective buyers.

100% this! I've been looking around trying to figure out exactly what benefits there will be... And I can't see much - certainly not enough for me to plough thousands and thousands on upgrading my entire chain.

Realistically... I would see myself getting a 4K OLED in the near future... So, will wait on 8k maturing before I jump on new amp etc.

Completely new panel structure for 2019 with much better fill rate:

Also different to the panel in the Philips OLED803.

Just by looking at it i would imagine it would be too heavy, you would need your ceiling reinforced surely.

Just plug in the HDMI cable upside down. I'm sure it's what they do in Australia anyway

Lots of debate, as ever, floating about how full the 2.1 implementation is with some citing an article that had SDR 4K at one level and not full HDR 4K. How true who knows. I think it was under Vincent's LG 2.1 article. As most of the other stuff introduced doesn't need 'full 'fat' 2.1 and info so far listed 2.1 port and not hdmi.

The way I read it was the people were differentiating by what listing a port as opposed to HDMI meant. Essentially it's a HDMI interface but as it stated port it was causing speculation as to the actual chip inside.
And as it's only the 8K sets that can utilize 'full fat' or need 2.1 for 120/8K it would be the only one needing the full capability in transfer rates etc.

Looks like the B9 will get a Alpha7 Gen 2 chip which will also have AI picture improvement rather than the Alpha 9 1st gen.

      Amazing indeed but 15K

No chance it’ll be that high (imo). I’m guessing sub 10K.

I’d love one (awesome idea/design which should really benefit the majority of our rabbit hutch sized housing stock) but since i’ve only just gone OLED, i’ll wait 2-3 years for real world prices.

With regards to the C9's HDMI 2.1 and eARC capability, do I need to be looking for a soundbar/receiver that supports HDMI 2.1 to take advantage of this, or is this just something handled by the 2019 LG TV's regardless?

I don't need it and I will never be able to afford it, but I really want that roll-up TV - it looks like sci-fi magic!

I’d been thinking that a rolling tv was just a bloody daft gimmick.

Great idea for a portable tablet. And for phones. But a telly?

However, now I really, truly and desperately neeeeeed one.

Shame I’m not pretty, I’d pimp myself for the cash.
