He was excellent at providing ambiguous and generalised answers. Still have no clue what THX value is and what they test for, despite Phil trying to get some specifics on what they do..

On another point the new THXAAA Headphones Amp has been very well received by Audiophiles and it was actually made by THX.

Wow that was painful to watch
that guy just didn't sell it at all just incoherently babbled on
I have yet to read one review that said the THX mode on a display was accurate

THX | Panasonic OLED TV ‘Behind the...

A much better THX/Panasonic video where they say what they test for

I used to love THX - sometimes the best part of watching a laserdisc was the THX trailer!
Now pretty much irrelevant in the world of home cinema IMO

I can only concur with others here, that really was, with all due respect.... or otherwise, approximately ten minutes of ambiguous pillow stuffing. I have a six year old Panny VT30 plasma with a "THX" mode and whilst I watch around 90% content on that setting (on 3D content I go onto a separate brighter setting) I still felt the need to bring down the colour intensity on that mode, so not 100% "THX" then. But I did enjoy the "Dolby", "DTS" and "THX" trailers being the sad av enthusiast that I am.

My present av amp (a Denon AVCA11XV) has "THX Ultra 2" certification and basically trims the slight brightness of a soundtrack back a bit but it's not a massive amount. So I do feel that "THX" is no longer a "big deal" seller anymore. If it was most of the big hitters in the av World would still have their certification and therefore logo on their products. The "Denon" AVC-X8500H or the Marantz SR8012 anyone?

I think Onkyo are the only main AV manufacturers that actually still have THX certification but that may have been binned now.
It was great back in the days of Dolby Surround when the surround channels were mono and adding dipole speakers really diffused the sound .As soon as discrete 5.1sound became the norm then that was the end of THX for me.
In the context of what THX was originally devised for, who need THX certified headphones or speakers for their PC?

I miss those old trailers. I wish they would put Atmos/DTS:X trailers on 4K Blu-rays!

Never used a THX certified product, and tbh never really felt like I've missed out on anything either. Room eq and pro/home tv calibration removes most of what THX has to bring to the table.

I remember the days when THX certified products were very sought after, I myself bought the JAMO THX System One setup and Pioneer THX certified amplifier thinking it was a must have addition to Dolby Digital 7.1 EX / DTS-ES etc.
I think the THX appeal has certainly died down over the past years and true audio formats like Dolby Atmos have taken the consumers interest more......
Unless THX come out with something ground breaking in the market place, I doubt they will be as popular as the once used to be. Its a shame really.

Doesn't inspire confidence does he. Don't think I will ever have the need to buy a THX product again.

      The answer is "no."

The only certification I need are reviews from trusted sources (such as AVF), the expertise of forum members, professional calibrators but most importantly... my own eyes and ears.

When I attended an Anthem demo (who don't seek THX certification), the distributor said that THX is Lucas' retirement fund (note that this was before the SW sale to Disney).

My Onkyo TX-NR 686 has audio settings for THX, and on some discs it certainly adds something, yet on others it sounds dreadful.

I only lasted 4 mins of that waffle. He said nothing conclusive in the same way I'd tell my parents that I've planned out my homework and that it'll be done on time, however knowing that I hadn't even begun giving it any thought and that I'll probably copy it off someone in the library just before the lesson. Yes we've got lots of products, projects and licenses we're working on and testing with equipment , blah, blah, blah. No specifics, sounded like he wished he hadn't been sent along to answer questions from their share holders.

You can still do this with Kodi but it's a bit of a Kludge. It's still nice though for us sad sacks who like to see the Atmos/Dolby logos before the film.
