As someone with a collection of cherished SACDs, a TIDAL subscription as well as a NAS full of digital music this sounds perfect!

It's impressive for sure. But I'd still only use the SACD, not into streaming, too much of an old fart for that. You'll be trying to get me to drink lager next.:)

Let's just hope they do not get overenthusiastic with that pricing... :censored:

      Hi

Obviously you don't want your electrons shaken!

Talk about decades old snake oil type marketing from the Hi-Fi industry still alive and well.

Also CD jitter (a physical reading problem that could potentially be caused by heavy vibrations, not that is been proven people can audibly hear) is completely gone these days, there needs to be no special arrangements or damping of physical vibrations to stop jitter as CDs are not read at real-time speed as was the case years ago, they are read faster and the data is buffered in memory and read from there, something the cheapest PC CD reader has been doing for decades.

As for recovering sound from low quality compression sources, this is little more than boosting the bass and treble, you can't add back what isn't there, no matter how they market it.

      Regards

      Phil

For me, this new SL-G700 is a major disappointment. As a device that can only play stereo SACDs, with no means of playing multichannel SACD or BDA, this is a streamer with a "bit of disc replay" thrown in. At €2,500-€3,000 I would expect universal audio disc replay, not just streaming. It can't play my sources, so will not be on my purchase list. Pity.

I may have been unclear. It can play the stereo layer of a SACD that has both stereo and multichannel layers. What it can't do is handle the multichannel layer of a SACD. BDA is a complete no-go, stereo or multichannel and I have quite a few of these, especially with all those operas being rereleased on BDA (just bought Aida, Salome and Butterfly).

It's been like that for a while now though. Current "Hi-Fi" SACD players are CD/stereo SACD only. If you want multi-channel SACD, DVD-Audio, Blu-ray etc then you need to get an "AV" player.

One for the modern digital stereo enthusiast. I look forward to your review Ed! ;)

Just being a little cynical, did they remove SACD from the DP-UB9000 because of this Technics box?! You know, since is supports DSD on USB.

Even a pure stereo fan would expect to be able to play stereo BDA's, such as those I mentioned in post #10. Since it cannot play the discs the media companies market with "High fidelity pure audio" on the front cover, I don't see how anybody could consider it to be positioned as a high end disc player.

I guess it’s horses for courses. I have about 50 SACDs and I’m not particularly interested in 5.1 playback or BDA. Everything else I listen to is either via Tidal or FLAC files from my NAS. So unless it’s stupidly priced, it’s still potentially a buy for me.
