They've missed a trick - being able to partially hide some of the screen for wider ratio (2.35:1 etc.) movies would have been useful... and a selling point.

Maybe it can but it doesn't mention being able to stop the screen at any "roll point".

Also... I wonder how durable this thing is going to be?

"LG is even adding Apple's AirPlay 2 to its 2019 TV line-up."

      :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Do we know if this also include the iTunes Movies/TV shows like Samsung?

No, that functionality will be exclusive to Samsung sadly.

Let's hope it is just a short exclusivity window for the first few months of sale.

The prototype from last year could do that; there's no reason this one shouldnt be able to.

Anything that moves ,folds , bends , rollable will fail more so than a fixed screen .

      Its just eye candy
Looks good but doubt many would buy.

Imagine your fav footy match started and its half out stuck . ;)

I’d love a BIG roll down OLED TV to come down over a window like a projector screen would. I have a distinct lack of wall space for watching movies on the big screen.

Just imagining what size oled I could get through the door if it were rolled up for delivery.
Projector screen size oled would be great.

It doesn't look very practical, you will need a rack that will accomodate this tv also where are you supposed to put that av receiver and center speaker.

It's something you can actually buy unlike Samsung MLED which is very likely several years away from being commercially viable to manufacturer for the masses. That load of nonsense with Samsung saying 1-9 years away is very likely closer to 9, they are going to bring out MLED each year and say any day now stringing those along.

I think this looks great It's especially good for appeasing the ladies in our lives who don't want a TV 'dominating' the room.

If I told my missus I was thinking of buying a 65" screen, she'd tell me to fudge off, but if it could be rolled away and make the room more aesthetically pleasing I'm sure she'd become more amenable to the idea, and be less like a harpy.

But microLED isn’t a real product. Nor will it be anytime soon.

Tis very nice but I would worry every time it went through its roll up roll down and be checking the screen for any type of warping all the bloody time .

It would work better for myself if they were to bring out a ceiling mounted option then I would have room for a larger screen with my speakers sitting underneath.

Agree. If you got the money and a spacious room to impress others, then this TV could be your answer. Otherwise I think this TV could end up being a big failure no matter how cool it looks.

I think this TV needs to do the opposite than it does at the moment. Instead of a big unsightly box sitting on your TV stand this would be so much better if it was marketed like a projector screen and something you could roll down from the ceiling. Imagine being able to roll down a huge OLED screen like a projector screen. I personally think that would be the best way to use technology like this.

I did ask and LG is currently 'undecided' about the 2018 models. I'm not quite sure what that means, but I guess it does mean that theoretically they could if they decide to.

Never say never ... remember what TVs looked like and cos 10 and 20 years ago.
Same for Samsung saying 1-9 years with MLED, it could just as easily be 1-2 years as longer ... depends on when the breakthroughs happen to allow them to get the yields up.

It's simply LG showing off how far their OLED technical expertise has come!

Maybe a few will be sold but ultimately I reckon it will end up being nothing more than a marketing gimmick.

I wonder if a rollable TV with a variable aspect ratio would maybe be feasible? Now it is 21:9, now it is 16:9 (or even 4:3)?

So apart from a rollable TV which few will be able to afford, the rest of the range looks very similar to the 2018 lot

Seems pointless. The box it rolls into will still take the same footprint as a normal screen. You'll just see all the wires now instead. And almost certainly will have terrible uniformity and DSE.
