Wey-hey, I'm in first! :). Though I won't be buying either television, I'd be keen to know how the forthcoming 75XF90 compares with the outgoing 75XE9405 from last year.

By the way, I'm not in the market for an OLED, but if I were, I would much prefer the upright design of the new AF8 to the lean-back style of last year's A1.

Same here, that tilt is a deal breaker for me. Feel the same way about tilts as I do about curved screens.

Well done on being first out the door!

Hi Steve, that’s very good news especially coming from you.
Any other point you can share about the lcd fald please.
Did you see the impact of x1 extreme on the picture quality?
Any chance of checking the chip for os?
In short, when will you have both Sony for review please ?

@Steve Withers How would you say the XF90 compares with last years XE93? I’m on the fence as to whether to wait or buy the 65’ XE93 for £1699 but I only have a week left to get it at that price, any feedback would be welcome.

Was there any indication of how well the Google Home integration worked? Is it going to be possible to instruct a channel change by name, such as "OK Google, play BBC1" or "OK Google, show Freeview EPG"?

Its nice that the XE94 is not being replaced so quickly, I have had the XE9405 for a few weeks now and I'm extremely impressed with its motion handling and processing. The colours are fantastic as is the black level. The 75" screen is also very good with no visible screen issues. Yes the Android OS is a bit slow but I've had no issues with it to date. It also does a great job with SD material but its stunning with HD and jaw dropping with UHD.
I watch a lot of football and F1 and my previous TV that the XE9405 replaced was the LG 65" E6 OLED, the Sony is to me so much better. Football (even my other half mentioned how good it looked !!) Is silky smooth and colours really pop.
I would highly recommend the Sony XE9405 if like me your not totally OLED obsessed.

I am still slightly confused about the A1 still being the flagship TV - if the 2018 OLED panels are slightly different from last year how will Sony go about integrating them into an existing model Steve??

Not sure why Sony haven't just given it a different model number (if the panels are indeed improved versions).

      1. What processor does this use for Android?
      2. Will they come loaded with Android Oreo 8.0 TV?
      3. Is the remote updated or still the cheap ass clicking one from this year?

Can't see anyone buying the old A1 instead of the new AF8.

The demo didn't cover these areas but I'm sure we'll hear all about this at Sony's UK launch day on the 7th of February.

From talking to the manufacturers that do OLED TVs, I get the impression that the 2018 panel is the same as the 2017 version, no one has been talking about panel improvements.

Wow some praise indeed. If it’s on par or even better than the XE93 that’s some improvement and a big surprise.

Steve, what are your thoughts on X-Motion. Does it keep the screen much brighter than clear setting?

      Hi avforums!
I am looking to buy a TV this year and the XF90 seems like an excellent choice.
I have an Bravia W705B and it's time to make an upgrade. Everything about this TV sounds very, very good. Sony said at CES that the price of it will be similar to the XE90 so that's a good thing. Spring is still far away but it's worth the wait. Can't wait for the reviews!

Seem to recall that there was a French website claiming the pixel configuration was different on this years panels - it was posted on here I am sure.

Gonna be an even harder sell if LG have just produced the same panels again imho ...

Its impossible to say without in depth review, but i dont expect much quality different. and if they do launch at same price as 9005 last year then it will be £2300 atleast, doubt it will worth the £500 different

      1. You don't wanna know :( At best, new MT5598. Which is quad-A53core 1.5 GHz. And no HDMI 2.1 support. But in reality most likely MT5597 PoS with Mali 450 from 2012.

It's not impossible that this information is here and that I've missed, it, but this reads to me like X-Motion Clarity is coming to Sony LCD, but not OLED.

Do I have that right? And if so, why?

      Cheers.

I'll keep my 1080p C series for a bit longer....
just a guess, but maybe the peak brightnes of OLED is the issue. BFI noticeably darkens te picture.

What's the likely price up for it then based on last years tags (for the 49")? £1600?

I've decided on the e9005 and happy as it's a tv that's been in the wild for almost a year and not an unknown quantity in terms of performance etc (not that the f90 will vary much but you never know).
