Just to report that myself and Steve Withers landed safely in Vegas an hour ago. We are getting unpacked and charging all our kit for the fun to start tomorrow (today UK time).

Mark is geared up to start the press conference coverage at 5pm today and that will go through to the early hours of the Morning. Steve and myself have lined up some early video coverage which should be live starting AM on the 10th. We are then full time on the Show floor until Friday this week and we are planning plenty of video coverage.

If you see anything you want more information on, then leave us a message and we will do our best to get it covered.

Well, its almost 8pm here and we are heading out for some grub and to get the CES atmosphere going.

Remember to join Mark at 5pm today in the CES2012 forum for the news as it breaks from the press conferences and our video coverage will start to hit the CES2012 forum and the Video page from tomorrow AM. It looks like we are in for a good show! :smashin:

    Hi Phil,

If you guys can drag yourselves away from the displays for a bit, ADA have announced their new high end 'Cinema Reference' Processor which includes up to 32 channels of Trinnov audio! Some shots of the prototype would be great and if you can get Richard to tell you all about it, that would be really cool.

I also hear Control4 (home control systems) have some 'big announcement' on the 10th so it would be nice to see what they have on offer.

    Have a fun time.

More technical info on the new Neo Plasma panels please; FFD in particular looks very interesting, if it does indeed do away with subfields that could be as big a leap in plasma tech as Kuro was.

Can you see what input framerates it supports please.

It would be great to have p48, p96, p100 and p120 for future interpolating scalers/p48 Blu-ray etc.

I'd also like to see p75, p100 and p120 at all resolutions upto 1920x1200 for PC input too.

They will have the same number of sub-fields but the address time will be much quicker - it will now be 1/2500 of a second, hence the 2,500 Focussed Field Drive.

Quicker addressing can help with black levels, brightness and gradiation.

Thanks Mark, that's explained the 2500 but I'm sure the refresh time has been .4ms for several generations.
I seem to remember them bragging about it before.

EDIT: I think it was .004ms before. Perhaps they were referring to something else.

Cheers Mark. I'd really like to know whether the PF series pro panels will include the same tech (graduations, FFD, black drive) as the high-end Vieras, but since it's a consumer show, I guess there's little chance of getting an answer from the Panasonic contingent?

Tell you what Mike, I'm a bit worried about whether these features will be as good as they seem.

Can't understand why the consumer division would launch a product so much better and cheaper than the VX300 only a couple of Months later.

The consumer and pro display are different divisions but I understand, at least in the US, they are to merge so hopefully next year we'll get more info on the Pro ranges at CES.

I wonder what panel the VX300 uses? Phil confirmed from his visit to Japan last year that the consumer and commercial screens now use the same panel, just processing, colour filters and the like differ. So, either the VX300 will have to change over to the new Neo panels (?) ... or maybe the VX300 already uses these new panels.

I had thought that it used the VT30 screen with better processing but it also has something called bi-level drive to increase gradations. As I consider the drive to be part of the panel, I'd have to say it's a new design.

Either Panny are using 2 different technologies to achieve the same thing or the VX300 is using the VT50 panel and they've done their best to hide the fact.

I think we need more details on how the VT50 works

Is there any chance the guys at CES could ask whether the VT50 uses the same panel technology as the VX300, please.
