    Hi!

Having problems with Sony STR-DB780 & Eltax speaker package..

My centre speaker sometimes decides not to work, I hear a 'click' and then no sound is heard.

I can be watching a DVD for example, and everything is fine. All speakers are working correctly. But then if I pause the DVD player, or mute the input to the receiver in any way, and resume, the centre speaker fails to output any sound.

It never clicks off during a scene or track, only if I stop the input and re-start.

Then if I pause and un-pause the DVD coupla times, the centre speaker will click back on again!

It happens with all of my input sources (DVD, CD, PSX, etc).

    Any ideas?

I have just powered-up the receiver, and switched to TV, and the centre speaker is making dull screeching noises..

Sounds like its trying to play really low bass sounds

    - Do you have a test tone ? Results ?
    - Broken interconnect ? (Try disconnecting & reconnecting everything.)
    - Speaker cable shorting ? (Loose strands to the cable ?)
    - the click sounds like the amp cutting out ?
    - bass ? You've not got it plugged into the sub-out ? :)

    * the speaker operates in the same way when I use the test tone. When the test-tone cycles the speakers, the centre & subwoofer don't sound, but then I used the test-tone again and all speakers worked fine. And it continued the 3rd & 4th time, on then off, etc.

    * i have taken everything out, and re-wired it all, and still the same prob. With the centre & sub.

    * the 'click' comes from the speaker, the amp's display tells me that a the centre and sub signal is being sent, but I can't hear it!

I was thinking the sub could be interferring somehow, but the L&R speakers work fine.

I also try replacing the centre speaker with a different one, and still had the same problem.

Considering my low end kit, I think I'm already out of my depth here !

Sounds like you've done plenty trouble-shooting already, and that the only answer now must be faulty amp ?

    Anybody else help ??

Have you tried disconnecting the sub and telling the amp you don't have a sub?

If after disconnecting the sub you still having problems ... then I think you probably have a fault and shoudl return to the store.
