Hi All,

Been working on converting my 120yr old celler for a while now whilst completing a whole house renovation. Had to do a lot to get to this point i.e replace joists to room above etc. So took longer than anticipated but finally getting to the point where its ready for the plasterers.

Its my first dedicated cinema room installation. But will double as my man cave with a bar for when the lads are round.

I'll let the pics do the talking....

How it was:

With coal shoot, brick floor and solid brick storage bench around the right hand side of the room. Damp, Wet and cold. Couldn't really use it for anything as anything you put down there would rust or rot.

It looks fantastic, takes me back many years!! It could almost be mine :D

Great the plasterers just rang me so looks like they'll make a start this weekend.

In the mean time below is a couple of pics of what became of the room above in case anyone's interested. New ceiling, new floor, new windows, removed the partition wall dividng the old hall way and front room as front door has been relocated. The arch window is now where the old front door used to be. External facing walls have been insulated. Then finally built the cabinets to wrap around and in the chimney breast (the one in the middle is deeper to hold my av equipment).

Looks great.
Brings back memories of when I had my cellar converted into a cinema room back in 2010.

Fabulous, room looks really great, smashing job

Well the plasterers have been. Its still drying off at the moment so probably wont get a chance to get the base coat of paint on until the weekend. The projector screen will be painted on the wall in the last pic which I asked them to make super smooth! Tried to take a pic but camera was finding it difficult to focus. anyway here's a few snaps....

Managed to get some colour on the walls. A custom blueish grey on the walls and ceiling and dulux flat matt grey steel 1 on the projection wall. Still got some cutting in to do. Sorry for crap pics...its getting difficult now that the rooms much darker.

Also ordered my first AV receiver. Was looking to get the Pioneer VSX924k but due to the bank holiday richer sounds were doing 50quid off so ended up going for the Sony STDR1050 which I thought was a steal at ÂŁ339. Hopefully it will go nicely with my Kef Ref 103.2s.

Hey thanks DaveKale, Firstly I made a raised deck (the width of the room) out of leftover p5 floorboard and timber to sit all the units on. This wrapped in front and around the chimney and was the height of the skirting board. I also had to widen my chimney breast by a couple of inches so that it was the same width as the three cabinets directly in front of it and also so that both the alcoves were roughly the same size (width). I did this so that I could use off the shelf ikea units else i'd have to build custom cabinets and doors.

I bought two shallow units (20cm deep) and one 40cm deep (to fit in between). These were then screwed together and down onto the deck. The deeper unit fit right into the chimney breast. I then boarded up the rest of the chimney which had been opened up by the previous owner.

I then bought two higher units to fit in the alcoves on either side of the chimney breast. again these were 40cm deep. All units sat flush at the front. I then used kitchen worktop to encase all the units.

Quite a bit of work but I like symmetry and function. One of the taller units hides the electrical meter and the other my kids toys. The smaller middle units house my av equipment and dvds etc.

Want to do something similar build some units into the chimney with power supply behind it

yep I've got power plumbed in behind the centre and side units. Also since we have no gas fires or a chimney stack (removed by previous owners) I used the chimneys as wiring ducts for my cat5e network. I have a patch panel up in the attic along with an av distribution setup for my tv and media centre.

Still got to finish painting but was eager to test the result of the Dulux Grey Steel 1, so I temporarily plugged in an old Sanyo LCD XGA 4000ansi projector I had. Actually I was pleasantly surprised with both the black and white levels on a grey wall! Will be testing an Acer HD DLP tonight but in the mean time below are some pics of the Sanyo.

With all the down lights on except the two nearest the screen:
