the new Sony lineup incl the NS400D is able to play CDR and CDRW.

does this mean that it can also play mp3 files or is this a separate issue and feature the manufacturer must add?

Generally speaking, a player spec will specify whether or not the player can also play MP3 files.

CD-R/RW compatability does not mean it can play MP3, simply that it will allow you to play music CDs which have been created using a CD writer.

Most of the giant corporations don't feature MP3 compatability on their players which is unfortunate. I think its something to do with the current status of MP3 - a format which is frowned upon in the music industry.

Lets hope it does though, cos I fancy a good quality player which'll let me play my PC tunes!

    Cheers,

    Paul.
