I've agreed to buy one of these of the classifieds for £150 but it ain't arrived yet.

I was wonering as to what extent players have evolved since the 92 was made. Would it be equal to, say, a CD82 now?

It would be equal to, or slightly better than, an Arcam Alpha 9. I would think it would be noticably better than a CD82.

I thought CD92 shared DAC with the Alpha 9...

I thought the CD92 had the Ring Dac in it as well as the FMJ CD22 (or 23).

An Arcam CD92 for £150 sounds dodgy to me. CD72s are still going for £200ish and they were half the RRP of the CD92 which was crica £900ish and only stopped being produced quite recently. 18 months to two years ago? (complete guess).

If you can get one and it's working properly for that price snatch their hands off...

    I would :)

    Steff

EDIT: Oh and to actually answer your question it's replacement now would be the CD192 a good comparison of two different technologies, the Ring Dac, against 4 upsampling dacs :) Would be interesting to hear them side by side.

I think you may be able to upgrade the CD92 to CD192 spec anyhow. In any case... £150 quid is certainly a bargain! (if it works :p )
