    Hi,

I'm about buying a new CD player, in the 2/300 € range. I am considering the Onkyo DX 7333, Yamaha CDX-596 and Marantz 5000. Has anyone had the possibility to A/B test some of these, or anyway have any suggestion?I would also consider Denon,
but in this price range they have no player w/ 2 digital outputs.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Hawklord for the suggestion. I hadn't considered Arcam up to now, I didn't know it was going also cheap. However, I have not found on the link you provided if this unit has two digital outs, nor if it does play CD-R and -RW ....

Another option often considered in that price range is the NAD C521i. This does have both an optical and electrical (co-ax) digital output and plays CD-R and (i think) CD-RW.

    Vikki,

what's your opinion on NADs? I never owned one. I know about many people complaining - expecially due to reliability - and many enthusiast as well. This happens with many brands (*), but maybe even more w/ Nad.

(*) for example, I like Denon: my current CD player is 14 years old now and still working.

    Thanks & regards.

We had a C521i for about a year and never had a problem. We've also found Lenbrook (the uK importer) very helpful. (Edit: actually it wasn't that long ... nearer 6 months - but we didn't sell it due to anything wrong with it ... we wanted to buy the Rotel kit and didn't use our NAD kit much)

You also see quite a lot of old NAD kit being sold second hand so it seams to last well.

I have got the Marantz 5000 nice player for the money. A smooth and decent sound. IMO.

Thanks to anyone replying. I checked the NAD player, but it does have one digital output only - the Marantz CD 5000 has two.

To be honest I am not absolutely sure I'll need two, but since I like - and my wife WANTS - to keep the units for years, I prefer to buy a player w/ two of them, just in case. Some other info I have gathered is that generally Onkyo players are well regarded - Marantz as weel - whereas Yamaha not that much ....
