Mainly listen to rock music and want something to replace my 15 year old Marantz CD41.
Will be keeping my Tannoy M20's and Pioneer A 400 though.

Arcam seem to be recommended.....anything else?

Well ... assuming you liked your Marantz ... then there's a 6000OSE (maybe even the KI version), or NAD 541i, Arcam CD62 and CD72, and Rotel RCD-02 and a RCD1060 (well RCD10-something).

Thanks Soundog......i like a "big, full" sound.I'm not so keen on bright ,harsh sounds.

Ultimately i'll have a listen to them first, not always easy i know.

Don't forget the Arcam CD82 - which is £599. If you use that as a benchmark (just about all Arcam dealers have this player now) then you can decide if spending less money gets you results that are nearly as good :)

I've got a Rega Planet 2000, very nice- personally more natural sound compared to the Rotel 951.

No wonder the poor dog on the left seems confused: a single speaker for a stereo system?

Good to meet you Steff. I've had sound advice from the other channel (Vikki) on my 'musicality' thread , which I much appreciated.

Just what AV/HiFi set up do you two have, btw?

    ditton

ps Just why am I up so early on a Saturday morning? 'Cos I'm waiting on my s/h Denon AVR2802 to arrive (as the with pre-outs replacement to my AVR1602) from Jasper as I don't want to be woken up by the delivery man

pps Paul, this thread was/is meant to be all about CD players, so I should add that I am also expecting deliver of a s/h Arcam 72T (from witters). I'll let you know how it plays against my current 'sitting room' CD-playing means, a Toshiba SD510 dvd player. As Victoria knows, I have been seeking to up the CD sound (having moved older Yamaha CD player to dining room and suffering relative deprevation - accoustics better there), and have been looking at following the way of the DAC: ie using the dvd player as transport and taking the digital signal into a DAC before playing through the amp. But I entered the competition for a s/h Arcam 72T priced at £240 inc. If it turns out to be as good as others say (not sure what John Dawson would say), then I may delay entry to the DAC side - tho I am getting lots of hints on good priced s/h DACs.

No where near as much hifi as we should have...

Congrats on the CD72, remember you can always upgrade it to a 92, so before you buy a DAC maybe you should listen to a 72 with DAC or 92 without and see.

Mind you that is probably because we have six computers at with Pentium2 or quicker CPUs in them:suicide:

We are actually selling our NAD Kit.

    Nad C521i
    Nad C320
Nad T550 (sold on ebay but the blokey ain't paid us yet....)

We also have some RS Special 5.1 speakers kicking around.

Then we get onto stuff slightly more fun.

Rotel 1060 Amp (2 months old and we want to sell it already) because we either want to go for Rotel Processor, because we are so impressed with the sound from the Rotel, or a Stereo Amp that has a processor button like an Arcam A85/A22!!

Marantz 5200 which surprise surprise, we are going to sell if we go for the Rotel Processor!!

A couple of Rotel 970 power amps (well we will have them next Thrusday)

Arcam DV88 (we are going to make it into DVD-A version when possible)

    Speakers:-
    B&W 2x602s2, 1xLCR60, 3x601s2
we have just sold our ikkle sub on ebay so are going to be looking for a decent one of them now as well!!

 Sharp:blush: £300 all in one thingy that we are just going to hide in the bedroom, cos we don't listen enough to justify having the NAD kit in there.

So that is what we have, and i've no idea if we will have any of it apart from the Speakers DV88 and Silver Anniversary cable in a month or so.

We have loads of great hifi intentions just not the money, like most people.

    Steff

EDIT: No this is not an advert and in the wrong place. It is the answer to a question :p

ps We don't have that much hifi money because i've spent to much lately on books... 1300+ and counting.
