Evening all,

I've run the first six cat6 cables today in my home and I'm having a few issues with one of the two cables I have.

I have two boxes of cable, one terminates great then cable pushes through to the terminals. The other is really difficult to push in, I'm not sure it will be good enough when in use. Continuity is fine, but I've read about there being issues if it is too far from the pins.

I've searched online and followed the steps but it just won't push in fully.

Here is a couple I've made up.

You should be fine., its more of a problem when the straightend ends are over long distances outside the crimp

Is that solid core cable? That usually shouldn't be terminated in plugs - it is designed to be punched down with a Krone tool, onto a patch panel or socket.

Lots of plugs don't give good results on solid core cable; or work initially and then work their way out over time.

For hdbaset you need to avoid patch panels and plates and it requires solid core so no real choice

Ah yes, makes me cringe every time I read the manual for a bit of HDBaseT kit...!

In that case you want to make sure it is plenty long enough then so you can replace the ends when they eventually play up. Worth checking the dice are at least loaded in your favour as some RJ45's are better than others (are those the EZPlugs where the cables go all the way through the jack?). Might be worth seeing if you can get a strain relief on there too to stop the cable wiggling side to side.

Thanks. I've not put a strain relief on but worse case can redo it again later on. The wires do go all the way through yeah.

Most standard Cat6 cable is around 5.5mm - 6mm diameter.
Are the plugs you have 2 part or single plug?
Cat6 plugs should only ever be 2 parts or more.
You may have cat5e plugs, which is not a real issue just small sized for Cat6 cable.

Also Solid Cat6 is perfectly fine to be terminated on plugs, some of the biggest Data Centres in the world run on Solid RJ45 Cat6 connections with no issues.
The only reason Stranded cables are used is flexibility over solid core.
Solid Core is King..

No not two part, they are one part but supplied by an AV Specialist.

Solid Core is King..
In an environment where cables don't move, bend radiuses are adhered to, you source connectors which are well matched to your cables, and use quality tools, probably.
But all those things conspire against you having good quality long term connections in the home environment. It is unfortunate that standards like HDBASET operate so close to (over?) the margins that normal gigabit ethernet would enjoy that they need the extra % that mandating solid core with no intermediate punched-down sockets gives.
