    Guys

Know some of this has been discussed elsewhere, but just need to confirm my thinking.

I am installing an HD Anywhere 4x4 in my detached garage, which means running the Cat cables from one building to the other. The way I am doing this is down a dedicated 4" drainpipe externally from the loft, underground through another drainpipe and then up into the other loft, using (yep) another dedicated drainpipe. The max run of any cable will be in the region of 70 to 80 meters.

For this run, do I need external Cat cable or as the cables will be protected by plastic drain pipe, will normal Cat cable be OK?

Also, I am thinking Cat 6 is my best bet for this, instead of Cat 5e?

If external - can you confirm this is my best bet: CCS Cat6 Solid External UTP Cable (Ref: 001-003-cat6ext) See: CableMonkey

If I can use normal Cat, can you confirm this would be my best bet: GigaTrue® 550 CAT6, 550MHz LSZH Bulk Cable See: BlackBox

    Appreciate any advice and guidance

    Phil

Even though the cable is run through pipe work it will still be subject to the effects of going from hot and cold. The copper will expand and contract. This could have an effect cable. It's unpredictable.

For any runs going outside the property I would use external grade cable.

For HDanywhere it does not matter if you use Cat5 or Cat6.

    Thanks Jamie

Can you confirm this is my best bet for use with the HDAnywhere: CCS Cat6 Solid External UTP Cable (Ref: 001-003-cat6ext) See: CableMonkey

But just seeing your Cat5 is fine line, I assume I would be better going for this: Cat5e UTP Solid External Grade Cable 305m reel Ref: 001-003-004-30 (see here)

Cat5e external 100m for £40 - would be my personal choice

Any reason why not go for the 305m reel ?

I am going to have 4 runs to do, maybe 8 runs if I run double - so that could be 80m x 8 = 640m or 8 reels of 100m vs. 2 reels of 305m plus 1 reel of 100m.

    No, no reason.

For our system you need just 1 cable. So 100m would be sufficient.

I did not realise you intended to run so much. If you want to run all that cable externally then of course you will have to buy more.
