Hi ,
I was planning to wire my house with UTP cat5e network cable however i am not sure how to tell which cat5e cable will be high quality enough for gigabit ethernet. Was planning to buy a 50m reel as i already have the crimping tools, boots etc.. Just wondering if anyone would recommend a good quality reel for about £15-20 or alternatively would it be better for me to purchase this cable then simply cut it into lengths.

Thanks in advance.

Any Cat5E cable is good enough for 10/100/1000Mb Ethernet to 100m. Preferred method of terminating it (solid cored UTP/STP) is into IDCs/modules/patch panel and not into plugs. Use plugs for stranded cable. The cable you've linked to doesn't say which type it is (solid/stranded) but the picture is of a patch lead which is usually stranded.

would it still work if i used a solid core utp into a plug?

Yeah it will. I do it occasionally at work for temporary runs. You can crimp both internal and thicker external grade Cat5 into plugs if you really need to.
