Casting from iPhone to TV

Hi all,

Am I right in thinking that all I need is an Apple TV 3rd gen (newer version not needed) to cast an app from my iPhone to the TV? I won’t be using any other services on it

Thanks.

In theory, yes, depending on the app.

For instance, Sky Go doesn’t allow Airplay from an iOS device.

Just check the apps you want to use first, but if they allow Airplay then the ATV3 will suit your needs perfectly.

Thanks.
How do you check? It’s some random exercise app my wife uses.

It's really only video applications you will struggle with. The vast majority of apps will cast without issue. We have a 2nd generation that seems to work perfectly well for this and can be picked up very cheaply.

The exercise app is videos I think. It’s like someone doing an exercise for a minute, talking through the rest period and then another minute of exercise, rinse and repeat for 20 minutes. So a 20 minute video.

To be honest, if it doesn’t work, it’d be nice to have something to show photos and videos on the tv anyway. Just gotta find a cheap one now :)
